I like to smash it smash it. I like to smash it smash it. I like to Smaaaaaaassssssh it!!! Smashburger one of many burger joints that lines Moorpark rd in my beautiful home town of Thousand Oaks. Situated in the same shopping center as Whole Foods, a lovely donut shop, pet nutrition center and a few other mom and pop shops. And about 1.5 miles off the 101 freeway. So whats a Smash Burger? Once inside you can grab a menu and get a head start in your head what you want. There are a few pre created choices, or a design it yourself option. Pick a bun, type of cheese, then your protein/meat, sauces, add ons. A few ad ons such as bacon, avacado, ect require a Dollar fee. All can be prepared with a black bean patty, chicken or beef. Beef can be prepared in 2 different sizes and they are hand made. You pay the cashier, and they give you a number and proceed to find a table. Outdoor seating is available and is dog friendly. The first time we dined here I made a huge mistake. I invited a vegetarian. Who invites a vegetarian to a burger joint? And to make it worse, they ran out of black bean patties that night. I felt so bad. As a first timer I ordered the BBQ bacon cheddar burger on a very large bun. I ate the entire thing. The whole burger gone. I remember it was good, not the best but good. I have yet to meet the 5 star burger of my dreams. Fast forward at least a year or two later, I returned. Again, I brought a different vegetarian, my husband. Hes not a real vegetarian, he was a vegetarian today and he just tries to watch what he eats and limits his meat, because red meat causes gout. Which means, I have to say no to meat. Its not very nice to eat a juicy burger in front of a vegerarian. This time I was being a good girl and ordered the BBQ, bacon, cheddar chicken on a whole grain wheat bun. The thin chicken breast was overflowing on the bun, the cheddar cheese was plenty and the bacon was a little chewy. The sauce was stingy. But it was redeemed by being topped off with shoe string onions. I asked for some extra BBQ sauce and poured it on top of the chicken and ate a little more than half. I even took 1/2 the bun off since it was filling. The leftovers went straight to Fiona who was watching me eat. My husband, had exactly the same as me, but with the black bean patty. And black it was. Kind of funny he orders vegetarian then adds bacon to it. He said it was good, I wasnt going to try it. I believe they have a coke contract. I saw the red coke fountain drinks. I dont drink a lot of soda so I wasn't paying attention. They do have vitamin water in the fountain and 3 different iced teas. Lemon is available for water. For dessert if your hungry still they have hand spun milk shakes in a variety of flavors. Or there is a good donut shop next door, which yelp informed me I visited after eating here. Sadly, my husband told me I am skinny now, but in 20 years all those donuts will catch up and he will divorce me. So I passed. There are no trash cans outside. Just nicely sort your mess onto your basket and they will throw it away for you, I promise. Maybe not a 5 star burger, but about a 4. Some serious burger eaters woyld give it a 3.5. The burgers are a little dry and not seasoned enough for my liking. But I would still eat here when Im in town and was happy with the service. And its coming to Buena Park in the OC very soon. YAY.

We came here after our kids soccer game and we had a great experience. We had a total of 17 people and they were very accommodating. I will come back for sure and recommend this place for everyone. Don't forget to try their gourmet fries, it's very tasty. Enjoy!!!

Beef tallow fries...HALLELUUUUUU-JAH!!!!! The rosemary shoestring fries were excellent. 5 stars for that alone. Possibly even better, the salted caramel shake. I read somewhere it's Hagan-Daaz, but you could have nearly fooled me that it was McConnell's (sans the chocolate chips). Beautiful butterscotch flavor. The burger itself was solid, if not amazing. Smashing so it's crispy seems like a good idea, but I'm not sure they didn't smash out too much juice, and it was almost well-done, like your average fast-food burger. Not overcooked, by any means, but most flavor had left the meat. And I wasn't getting much crispiness, either. Also, I got it lettuce-wrapped so I didn't savor the entire experience. There was just too much weirdness in the gluten-free bun (they kindly brought out the box to show me the ingredients) for me to go there along with the milkshake that day. If they nail down the burger cooking method to make it reliable, this place could displace Habit as the best fast food, as the fries were far tastier, and not cooked in industrial oil.

Great burgers! Love their Jalapeno burgers! Went late one night and the staff was super friendly. Great service. Will be back soon

People were super friendly. They helped us with cleaning up and brought out food out to the table for us (we have a new baby). We weren't super impressed with the quality for the price but it wasn't bad. We would probably go back again if we were in the area but wouldn't go out of our way.

Really disappointed with my experience. We have been here a couple times and before it was delicious so we decided to go in today. The meat was totally flavorless. Got a chicken BLT, and the chicken was greasy and flavorless, the bacon was fatty and also greasy and there was avocado on it so it was just grease on a bun - yuck. The rosemary fries are always yummy, and the salted caramel is delicious. Got my toddler a beef patty, and it was also flavorless. Come on guys, you have a great menu, make it worth coming out and taste your food!!

A nice step up from the other burger joints in the area. They do a nice job of putting together their unique burger combinations in a tasty and satisfying way. I've tried all the different combinations and they have all been good. They also offer two sizes which is good for the kids. Fries are the thin shoestring style. They also have a nice, private dining patio out front. This location is clean and the service is friendly and efficient. My only complaint is the cost of their milkshakes, which is at least a dollar too high at well over $4.00 for a small shake.

It has been quite some time since my last review of Smashburger and I am pleased to say that the quality has gone up recently. Their beef burger, while simple with the seasoning, has an excellent crispy texture from the famous "smashing" method they use there. And that definitely sets it apart from other burger places. Their sweet potato fries are also excellent, especially in how they are not too sweet like most restaurants' sweet potato fries. And the savory rosemary seasoning is superb. Definitely a great place for a cheap and simple, but fulling lunch.

Coworker had a hankering for Smashburger so I begrudgingly went with a huge crew from our office. I went ahead in trying the new item Spicy Buffalo Burger but got the crispy chicken version of it. Chicken was breaded nicely and juicy. The flavor was there with the blue cheese (but very strong as expected). However, as I put the two bun halfs together, the bun top was noticeably cold to the touch like it had been in the freezer or fridge shortly before. My coworker (the one who prompted the trip) decided to try the Spicy Buffalo fries. There hadn't been any pictures of it (just the burger and chicken versions) so when the employee dropped off his order, we all stared in confusion at the plate. They looked like basic french fries. I tasted one, nothing different from what I could tell. We checked with the employee and she confirmed it was the Spicy Buffalo, it had seasoning on it. She offered to bring more seasoning and brought the ranch dip that was supposed to come with it. We all had expected it to be heaped with toppings like chili cheese fries or something. The extra spice mixture made it taste better and you could tell the flavors that are the same as the burgers but talk about underwhelming!!!!

  • Brian D.

YUCK Stay Away! Burgers were dry and buns were stale. My wife got the veggie/bean burger and it was cold in the middle. If you are craving a burger why would you go here with so many other options? In-N-Out and Wendy's are better than this.

  • Jeff D.

Great burgers, but pricey. Smash fries are really good even though you are clogging your arteries even more over regular fries with every bite.

  • FOOD L.

I'll start with the negatives... Employees are not trained properly. They all have a different view on substituting ingredients, some charge you even if they don't have to. The only other negative is waiting for condiments to be brought by employee. Positives... The burgers are good, fries are good, the shakes are great! Customer service is good. There are certainly individuals that stand out. But overall a good choice for some good grub. (BBQ bacon cheddar: minus bacon add mushrooms!!! And haystack onions)

  • Jenn T.

I was curious about how good the burgers were here. I ordered a grilled chicken and the boy friend ordered the smash burger. They were both so freaking delicious and didn't feel greasy or completely deadly. I want to come back to try a crispy chicken sandwich! The food comes out pretty fast and it's decent for a restaurant burger. The restaurant is clean and the service is friendly. I'll come back eventually.

  • Lisajo M.

I used to like this place. But today the worst service ever! How do you screw up an order 3 times? And the 3 people behind us in line had their order messed up. The manager has no idea what she is doing!

  • Joey T.

I like burgers. I like burgers even more when I get to pick everything on it, and order something special. As this trend becomes more common place in the realm of burger ordering, it's less special overall. Smashburger is another burger joint that allows me to create my own madness between two buns (of my own choosing, of course). This was not my first fore here, and it will not be my last, but every time I leave I just have a "Well, that was average" feeling from smash. The bun is good, the patty and the toppings are standard. I feel like I pay too much for my burger, and that's without ordering fries or a drink! It's okay when I am around, but never a place that I will seek out.

  • Joey D.

I love smashburger - didn't love this one. The guy who took our order seemed like this head was someone else. Barely engaged in our order and seemed to stare right through us... Rather odd experience. The food was disappointing for smashburger. The burger was cooked, but just barely. The patty didn't feel solid at all- it was very crumbly and little bits would fall off when I held the burger. It was also sloppily put together- the cheese and toppings were all falling off the side. Try smashburger, but be carful of this location. It's the worst experience I've had at a smashburger and I've been to quite a few.

  • Ariana V.

I actually really liked my burger upon first bite! Stopped by here real quick during work lunch. I had the truffle swiss burger. It literally just had the mushrooms and the cheese and the meat. It was enough -- perfect for a fast food burger. The egg bun went well with the meat and mushroom and cheese. Simple, quick, and affordable.

  • Tom G.

I dropped by once here with a friend - had a burger and fries and found them to be way underwelming. Although the fries were "nice" being shoestring style but longer... and the burger flavorful - and visually appealing - I feel their competition offers a lot more for the money. I understand some might feel the portion sizes are fine nd so larger portions elsewhere might be of no interest - well - to me it was NOT ENOUGH to make a meal of it. Sigh....

I can somewhat understand the hype around a new burger establishment, but let's be honest when you consider bang for your buck combined with taste it's too hard to be In-n-out. Yes, this place has gourmet this and that, but at the end of the day..it's just a burger. The food is decent, but he establishment felt a little dirty and disheveled. This place can use a good cleaning. All in all, if you are seeking an "ok" burger and want a beer alongside of it then maybe you might consider this place.

  • Mara C.

We found this on Yelp and so glad we did as their burgers are amazing. I ordered mine with spinach, cucumber & goat cheese, a wonderful combination. The burgers are a little pricey but well worth it and they have 2 sizes. We all ordered the regular size and there was plenty. I don't know where they get their beef but it was delicious. We need a Smashburger in SLO County!!!!

  • Rachel H.

I would give the staff here FIVE stars, they were lovely, friendly and accommodating. I am a Smashburger fan going back to the beginning, used to frequent the ones in the San Diego area a lot. This experience left me feeling like things have changed - the burger I had wasn't very good. It was small and greasy. It was the truffle mushroom and swiss burger. I also had the Franks Red Hot fries - not good in my opinion. The powdered Franks stuff was too strong and too powdery to make it work. The place was very clean, prices are fair.

The first time I went here I loved their garlic burger and the service was great, couldn't wait to come here again. The second visit: the burger was good but not as great as the first time, was really greasy. And the service was horrible, not sure what happened between my first visit and second. Have not been back sense.

Good service and food and they want to take care of you if anything is wrong. People might think staff are jerks if youre being a jerk and want more. Ive worked in hospitality and know the feeling! They do their job and I love their shakes and burgers!!!

I had the BBQ, Bacon and Cheddar with a side order (no combo meals here) of fries. Underwhelmed it was greasy and disgusting. Seriously I'd rate Carl's JR Western Bacon Cheeseburger above this and its far less expensive.

Husband and I needed lunch while apartment hunting, and thought Smashburger would be perfect and quick. Whoops... It was mid-day on a Saturday and the line stretched to the door. It felt as if they were under-staffed, especially for a weekend. Once we got to the front, the employee was nice and friendly and answered my questions very professionally. Only two tables were open, but both were covered in left over trash and debris from previous customers. I wiped one down as best as I could and we waited. And waited. Suddenly my burger arrived, but that was it. We waited some more, and then finally my fries and my husband's food were brought to our table. We found it strange that only my burger arrived first, but when my husband's food came out his burger and fries were on the same tray... My Spicy Jalapeño Baja Burger was delicious, but the fries were bland. Husband ordered the upgrade to 1/2 pound burger but it didn't look any bigger than mine. Maybe we'll have to come back when they aren't so busy and try a different fry variation...

Went here with a voucher for the first time the other day. The voucher was get a free burger or sandwich with purchase of fries and a drink! I got the Crispy Spicy Buffalo and Blue Cheese Chicken Sandwich, Sweet Potato Fries, and a Salted Carmel Shake. The fries were really good!! The shake was good at first and then then refill was just ice cream. I was so sick to my stomach after drinking it though. The sandwich was good, but not that spicy! Only a little sauce! Wish they added more to it! Was a cute place! Friendly staff! I wanna try a burger if I go back!

I got to try the avocado club burger on the house. I got a voucher in the mail for a free burger so I came in to check this place out. To add to the order, I purchased smashfries and a drink. First when I came in, there was no one at the counter. I thought this place was closed and I didn't think this was going to be a good experience based off of first impressions but once someone noticed me after 10 minutes, they stepped it up and the service was good thereafter. I noticed that it took awhile for the food to come out but it was worth the wait because everything was cooked properly (no burnt meat) and fresh ingredients (crisp green lettuce, avocado, tomatoes, etc.). The fries looked a little oily so next time I'm going try their regular fries but overall, everything tasted good. Very soon, I'm going back to try their veggie black bean burger and regular fries.

Update. Returned for a late lunch today and overall enjoyed the meal. The location was very busy and as a result of the high volume the employees were struggling to maintain cleanliness and bus the tables. They were doing a pretty good job though and looked like they were understaffed. The bathrooms were clean, and the kitchen looked relatively clean as well. Counters at the soda machine were slightly dirty. The place was packed and few empty seats were left. Overall the food was excellent, and was prepared quickly as ordered. The service was mostly friendly and polite save from my first impression today. Dear Smashburger Owner in TO: I would have gone five stars save for the bad attitude of the checker. I decided to tell him his screen facing the customers was out and he decides to be a smart ass about it and he rudely and aggressively instructs me that he has been there all day and it has been out all day. Congrats for making me feel un-welcomed Mr. Personality. I was just trying to help. I told him to take it easy and I was just letting him know "FYI". Not that the manager or owner reads these reviews, as I have seen no replys back from their management, but so you know who it is, it is the BIG guy working the front register today about 1:30 PM. I almost went 3-stars for this but I like this place and hope they succeed despite the poor showing of this employee. I guess everybody has bad days and perhaps I should be more forgiving so I am sticking with 4-stars but will wait until this guy self destructs before returning. Good luck Smashburger :)

Thousand Oaks location does not serve smash mixed fries. Buy 2 orders of fries to enjoy the melody in your mouth. The Del Mar location rocks...Smash it like you like it!!!?

Their burgers, fries, shakes..excellent. The cashiers are always friendly and give recommendations to those who don't already have a favorite item. It's never been really busy when I go there so a handful of seating areas are available! The atmosphere is great and the food comes out quick! Love this place! Thank you!

Ordered AVACADO Club...measly avacado. See photo attached. Had to try 4 bottles of ketchup at various empty tables before I found one with any ketchup inside. Asked nice waitress to turn up the dining room temperature which was freezing cold, she said its locked up and they can't change it. So much for customer priority and an empowered staff. Expected better, will think about where else to take the family next time.

Sat on the patio staring at my chicken sandwich with frozen avocado while waiting for the ex to get her cheeseburger with chipotle sauce or whatever they call it. It was her birthday, and we hadn't been here in years. I guess they actually had to run to chipotle for the sauce, cause the burger came out ten minutes later sans sauce. Some guy behind me was leaning over the railing yelling (yelling) to some other rando who pulled up in his truck like it was a drive through, yelling IS THAT HOZIER IS THAT HOZIER and then tried singing while some other guy who looked straight out of the Apocalypse slow walked his way to a table and seemingly only ordered a modelo, especial. Made for decent convo though, and if anything truck guy got one thing right, this place is getting more bleak, a fresh poison each week.

My first time. Very disappointed. We ordered the black bean burger and a create your own burger to go. We got home to eat and the burger bun was soaked and soggy with grease. The black bean burger literally looked like dog poo smashed between two buns. Needless to say, we both immediately lost our appetites. Service was wonderful. If only I could say the same for the food.

This place satisfied my fast food craving without making me feel like I had made a horrible decision after eating (i.e. not super greasy and didn't make me feel ill after). So when I say fast food, I mean fast, the food was brought to us outside in what felt like only a few minutes - granted, we came on a Friday afternoon in which the place was less than half full. The staff also seemed very nice and eager to accommodate our eating needs. I appreciate what they are trying to do with the regional burger thing, and think it's kind of a cool idea... I ordered the LA Burger, regular size. This burger featured "crispy wonton" which was really just one large fried wonton skin (didn't add much flavor but definitely added some good texture to the burger), a fried egg, cucumbers and cilantro, and a nice ginger dressing. The burger patty itself was very flavorful and juicy and I was pleasantly surprised with how well all the different flavors went together! I was the perfect amount of full afterwards but for a 6 dollar burger I might have expected to be just a tad more full.. The smashfries were really tasty too, boasting that yummy garlicky/rosemary taste. They were, size wise, very small and thin, so if you're into that kind of thing you will probably like them... I will definitely be stopping by here again!

Went to the Camarillo location. Was excited to try them. Heard they were coming to Camarillo- I like to support local business. Geez- i was so not happy. Thought the burgers was going to be "smashingly" above the competition, but they weren't. Frankly, I've gotten a tastier burger accross the way. I was really disenchanted. I hope they step it up. I wish them luck, but I will not be returning any time soon. I work hard for my money and will not be spent there. Sorry. Best of luck.

Classic smash burger is my go-to burger. Simple, delicious, and flat out satisfying! Pair it with French fries (I prefer the regular fries to the smash fries) and ranch dressing and BOOM! you got yourself a ticket to food coma-ville. If you've got a sweet tooth, opt for the root beer float! Ice cream and soda. You can't lose.

Great customer service and GREAT FOOD!!! I only eat chicken burgers, and order chicken wherever I go, these smashchicken burgers are exceptional! The chicken is always tender and juicy. The sweet potato fries are also to die for, and I NEVER forget to order a NutterButter milkshake. This is a great place for all ages, anything can be made into a salad which is great for the salad lover in your crew.

Have always had nothing but a great experience at this Smashburger. The staff has always been friendly and attentive. I always get the LA burger...always. The crispy wonton, fried egg, sesame ginger dressing...I love it. I'm a fan of the fried pickles too. The outside patio is a nice place to enjoy your burger and it's priced reasonably. For me, Smashburger comes in behind The Habit but WAY ahead of 5 guys.

I am a huge fan of this place. They have quite a few unique burgers and sandwiches, and build your own options too which is nice. I got the buffalo and bleu cheese chicken sandwich, which exceeded my expectations. (Hey, I'm picky.) My husband got the LA burger which had a fried egg and wonton in it. He loved it and finished that thing in about 2.5 seconds. We shared the smashfries and loved them! A little greasy, but sure good.

I pick up their chicken sandwiches twice a month for my man and I. The avocado club chicken sandwich is GRUB and the original is good too. I tried the spicy chicken too, which was great. It's all about the fried pickles, onion stacks and fries are all excellent. They don't take phone orders which is lame but whatever. :)

  • Jess A.

Burger was ok, service was alright, smashfries were boring and too skinny. Overpriced for what it is: fast food!!!! Bottom line!! If the burger was 4$ and not 6, I'd say a lot nicer things about Smashburger. It wasn't a bad meal at all, I'm just not blown away and probably won't bother again. I'm a huge fan of the Habit, where everything is relatively the same price but much tastier and fresher, with more outstanding service. Five Guys, Johnny Rockets, and even Wendy's does burgers better.

We have toured all the Thousand Oaks burger places and this is my families' favorite burger joint by far. My oldest son loves the BBQ Bacon Burger which is a conventional one with a generous helping of onion strings inside. The younger ones like Kids Meal burgers which allow them to add cheese, lettuce, bacon to customize. I was an original partisan of the Classic Smash but have more recently gravitated to the Bacon Avocado Club which is probably the best chicken sandwich anywhere. The beef version is excellent as well. The regular as well as seasoned Smash Fries are both excellent. Shakes too. My one knock is that their lettuce wrap is subpar. It really isn't a lettuce wrap.

Love this place! Juicy Burgers and juicy Fries. Fast friendly service and great customer service. I use to come to this location but they opened one in Camarillo at the Outlets on Ventura Blvd.

Typical burger spot and the place was clean. The burgers are on the pricey side and not the most amazing one's I've ever had. Taste-wise I still like the Habit better but I do really like their thin fries here. Doesn't have to be the smash fries. Those weren't that amazing either. The service is very good. Girl that took our order was friendly. She brought our food out and when I pointed out that they didn't make the changes that I requested on the burger, she took care of it right away and brought it right back. I think she even checked on us later which is unusual in fast food places. She might not have done that if it wasn't a slow night which it was when we got there.

The black bean burger is a great vegetarian option. It comes as the Spicy Veggie Black Bean Burger (jalapenos, guac, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, onion, chipotle mayo and I add cilantro) and it's actually SPICY. You can also sub a black bean patty for any of the burgers on the menu. The LA burger (crispy wonton, fried egg, cilantro, cucumber, lettuce, tomato and Japanese steakhouse ginger dressing on a black and white sesame seed bun) is really good as a veggie burger as well. Really, really wish they had some non-fried side options, and that you could call in an order. I usually grab burgers and take them home, and it would be great to have the order waiting when I got there.

I have started coming back. Service is better. Menu items still have not come back (chili). But it is the best fast food burger around so that's what made me come back.

Smash smash smash.....I am very disappointed in your service today! Let me draw this out for you.... First my friend and I stood in line for 1/2 an hour waiting to order. After paying for our food we proceeded to the soda fountain to refresh ourselves as we waited for our order. To our dismay there was a sign on the coke fountain "Sorry we are all out" SMASH! Which self respecting burger establishment runs out of coke? And why wasn't there full disclosure while we were ordering our food? I could have switched to a beer instead however I wasn't interested in waiting in line again! Additionally the counter staff forgot to provide us with an order number placement which further delayed our order from being delivered to our table. The only reason you get a 3 star rating is because after the exhausting 1 hour wait the burger was good. I expect to return however I expect that you will respect the wishes of your customers and please don't run out of coke.

Got pulled over last night for doing 80 on the freeway cuz I got back pain and tryna get home a lil bit faster to rest, well cops didn't care about it so I was pissed off. This morning I woke up went to this burger joint for brunch and it brung me a glorious feeling instantaneously and now I am happy again. Very friendly servers, patiently listening to me bitching about the speeding tix with sympathy before I even took the order and later nicely bringing the food to the table. That Truffle Mushroom Swiss Burger was cooked tender and juicy, with hearty amount of cheese and grilled mushrooms and ingredient were all fresh and savory. I should've ordered some extra bacon to eat them pigs tho, maybe next time. Smashfries were greasy and crunchy, just as what they are supposed to be. They were seasoned perfectly with garlic. People love fries and Chinese people love garlic, so 10/10 to these fries no doubt. Overall, I think that Neptunes guy really should've shoot his "Happy" video in this burger joint: for $10 I got pure joy and happiness. Thank you Smashburger Thousand Oaks!

Burgers- awesome; service from manager-sucks. He's unfriendly he just doesn't care. If you go there 30-45 min before close they will be out of tea (I promise) and they will refuse to make more. I watched at least three other ppl try to get tea. The other workers seem friendly but the manager seems annoyed by everything. I would give 5 stars if they could find themselves a better manager. How much money are they saving by not making more tea? $3.00 for the tea bag? But they lose more by making ppl not want to come back.

Service was great but prepare to drop some serious $$$ on sub par mediocre food. I got a burger fries and a drink all small/regular size and it was $12 and it was just OK. I wouldn't mind paying $12 for lunch if I walked away saying wow that was good. The employees were super nice and friendly.

Big size burger was $7.39 and small was $6.39. Had the big truffle swiss and mushroom beef burger. I really liked the truffle flavor. I wouldn't say the burger was huge but the flavors were there. Service was great today!

This was my first time here... The staff was very friendly and helpful! He had to help me through the menu. The hamburger was very good but the sides were VERY VERY greasy. If I were to go back I would only order a hamburger no sides. The thing I loved is they have a secret menu and it has a Fido burger for your dogs. It's a patty in a bowl. My babies loved it!! The reason I only gave 4 stars was for the grease. Everything else was great!

Friendly staff, awesome burgers, and amazing fries! I love the fries here more than the Cajun fries from 5 Guys. I would probably go here just for the fries. Haha

Nothing special here. Burger gave me indigestion. Prices are way too high for the quality. Save your money and go elsewhere.

I went here early on July 3rd, knowing the place would be mobbed at the regular lunch time. Ordered the BBQ, Bacon, and Cheddar regular burger with mustard and regular fries. This burger was one of the five best burgers I've EVER eaten in my entire life, and I've stood in burger lines for longer than most of you have been alive. Every single thing about it was as fresh as fresh gets, and the egg bun was a revelation. The Haystack onions are glorious. The fries were perfect: fresh, hot, and properly salted. If you don't love their food, then you don't like food at all.

This place is ridiculously good! What I like to do here is customize my own burger vs. getting one off the main menu. I get my burger like this: Big Patty Egg Bun Fried Egg Bacon Jalapenos Haystack Onions Fried Pickles Pettle Sauce & American Cheese Super delicious.

Such an awesome place! I'm so happy there is one near enough so when I'm craving that same taste from AZ I could drive down and get a classic cobb!!!

Having spent most of this week under the weather with a respiratory ailment, I wanted to salvage something of this past week by trying out a new place to eat today. Someone from where I work raved about this place, so my hubby and I decided to give Smashburger a try for our lunchtime sojourn. Overall, I liked Smashburger. The burger I ordered had real good flavor, all the veggies were very fresh, but I felt it was a bit on the greasy side. I can't pinpoint why or how I knew it was greasy, but it was. One can order their burgers as a regular (1/3 lb. beef), or big, which is 1/2 lb. of beef, or a size up from that (can't remember now what it was called or how much it weighed). My husband and I both ordered the "regular," and we both ordered the "Classic," which is your traditional burger with cheese, pickle, onion, lettuce, tomato, mustard and catsup. Interestingly, they didn't call this the "All-American," which I would have, but the All-American was the McDonald's version........ meat, cheese, bun, pickle, catsup and mustard. They have some very exotic burgers, but I'm a "Classic" girl all the way, and you can add anything you want anyway........ like I did by adding some mushrooms. I also ordered their "Smash" fries, which supposedly had rosemary and garlic in them or on them. Honestly, I'm really not sure about that part......I didn't taste the rosemary or the garlic, and the fries were literally dripping in oil.....not well drained at all. I tried to blot off the excess oil, but I don't think I blotted off any of the added herbs either since I ate a few fries before attempting the blotting process.......and I still didn't taste the rosemary or garlic. They definitely had flavor....just not what I was expecting. My hubby ordered the chili cheese fries, and while it's never something I'd order, they were quite tasty........and tastier than mine, I'll add. They have a number of other non-beef menu items, and I might be inclined to try their chicken sandwich offerings next time even though the Classic Burger tasted really good. Speaking of which, I like the burgers at The Habit just as well, maybe even a little better. I haven't decided, but they are worth giving a try here at Smashburger. Normally, I wouldn't comment on what I ordered to drink, but in this case, I didn't like it. While I had the opportunity to order whatever flavor of iced tea I wanted, I didn't like them, and I tried 2 of the 3 offered. Not only were two of them sweetened, but they were sweetened with artificial sweetener, which I never use, and it had such a bad aftertaste to me. Yuck. They had one that was unsweetened, but I didn't want that one........ it was just plain black tea, and I was bored with that option. I'd certainly eat here again, but I can't say I'd race back anytime soon. It's more like, if I'm in the area and don't have anywhere else I'd rather eat, then I'll return. I wish I could give this 3.5 stars, that's really what I'm feeling, but I don't get that option.

Not a bad place if you are craving some burgers. I'm not a burger fan, so the only reason I do this review is because they have 'no bun' burger that I can order. The burger is pretty tasty. I might come back to try out more food they have (and their so-called chai tea shake, which was not available when I was there. WTF!) The service is another story. Maybe we came at the bad time (crazy lunch time on Friday, while they don't have enough staff). This is the reason I put 3 stars. Maybe next time I can update to 4 stars. A lot of people compare to Five Guys. Unfortunately I can't say anything because I've never been to the other place.

I would come back, but mainly for the shakes and their special menu offering for my doggie. We tried the: -Avocado club smash, regular size: Burger was seasoned well and had great texture, a nice sear on the outside and juicy on the inside. Otherwise, bun was lackluster and there was hardly any bacon or avocado. Definitely go for the "big smash" size for only $1 more because the regular size looked kinda paltry. -BBQ bacon cheddar chicken sandwich: I like that it was all white meat chicken, but the meat was dry and bland. The only saving grace was the bbq sauce and onion strings. Would not get this again. Toppings might be better on the burger version. -Smash fries: Pretty good. Fries were crisp and not too greasy. I enjoyed the added flavor of rosemary and garlic. -Veggie frites: Disappointing at best. Great concept, but terrible execution. These are basically deep-fried green beans and carrot sticks. Extremely greasy to the point you could squeeze a ton of oil from each one. You are better off getting the french fries because even those were not that greasy. -Nutter butter shake: One of the best shakes I have ever had in my life. Made fresh with haagen dazs ice cream and crushed nutter butter cookies. Yum! *SECRET MENU ITEM ALERT* -Fido style smashburger: An unseasoned patty cut into bite-sized pieces for your dog. I got this to-go and my dog inhaled all the bits when I got home. This was by far the best deal of all at only $2. Otherwise, friendly and fast service. Give their shakes a try at the very least!

Never again. In the past I had usually enjoyed this place. I have eaten in and taken out many times but their customer service has recently become functionally unacceptable. These primadonas will no longer take a small, simple order over the phone and flat out force you to order on line.... Which might be marginally acceptable if the site actually allowed one to place and order, customize your food and pay at the time of pick up with cash. Not everyone has plastic. US currency is still good in this country, as far as I know. Not everyone can easily place a 'to go' onlne order and even if I could (AND I TRIED) I just wanted to substitute Cucumber for Jalapeños on a 'Baja Cobb'. You try doing that on their totally inflexible website. It is simply not possible. When you get on a plane - does Delta make you fly it? Yes, I acknowledge that we are in an age where there is a shift to "on line" commerce - but this flagrant disregard for customer service is way over the top. Their food is OK - but their website designer must have had his/her last job in as a toll taker.... Where you can't have any choices and you can't use cash. Not going back.

This place is completely delicious. The burgers, for the price you pay are out of this world! The smash fries are great. The milkshakes are amazing. The burgers are cooked a PERFECT medium-well. No pink at all, but as tender as can be. They taste amazing, and the bacon and avocado toppings are great. Without mentioning names, there is another (WAY over-hyped IMO) national chain burger place on N Moorpark Rd that doesn't do milkshakes. This place does, and they do them well. My favorite part is when you order a shake to eat in they do the old school thing and give you the metal container with the leftover shake. AMAZING! The manager Rodney is personable, friendly & competent.

The food here is excellent-- the burgers are juicy and fresh and the smashfries are incredibly flavorful. I've tried many of their burgers. Each one is uniquely topped which adds a lot of variety to the menu. I took off one star because the quality of service is lacking for a variety of reasons. I think I've only been here once without having a nontrivial problem. Sometimes the counters are not clean, other times they did not bring out two frosty mugs for the shake that I said I wanted two mugs for sharing. There have also been times where the person at the register would not let me order a small size burger, even though it was on the menu. If you're willing to be vocal about what you want, you should definitely check this place out! The food is really terrific!

My heart slowed down for a minute after eating this burger. This fried delicious patty comes to your table covered in traditional toppings such as the truffles or cobb sandwich toppings. You order the burgers by weight, though it must be measured before the meat is cooked. After gorging yourself on fatty patties you can go next door to the church of Whole Foods and cleanse your soul of it's burgery sins. I plan on making this a weekly habit!

My first experience with smashburger was in SD and I don't recall being blown away by it. However, they have opened one near work and a bunch of my friends wanted to go. We had a large group and we go there early enough to snag the last big set of tables. woo! Service was fast, which is nice when you only have an hour to eat lunch including drive time. I got the avocado club. i'm a sucker for avocados. The burger was super moist and delicious, but messy. I also nibbled on some of my friends' sweet potato fries. Yum. I liked the fries with the olive oil and rosemary the best. Yum. I'm sure we will be back!

Not disappointed with anything. But also not super impressed, I like the idea of creating your own burger but nothing stood out as being amazing. I'm surprised it's so empty in here. Get the smash fries for sure, hope u enjoy it more than I did!

I farted, and they told me to leave. WHO DOES THAT? I mean...Every. Man...FARTS. Get your act together SMASHBURGER. Focus on actually making a decent burger...instead of my intestinal discomfort. **disclaimer: I'm 40. And I just used a fart joke. You've been served.

Smashburger would have to be my favorite fast food place - the salads are awesome, the burgers rock, love the sides... It is a nice change of pace that you can have different buns for the burgers in addition to a lettuce wrap option. The salads are ridonculously huge and the salad dressings are great. I love that things come on the washable metal grid trays instead of boatloads of paper and styrofoam. Husband loves the chile with the fresh jalapenos. Need a Smashburger at the Collection in Oxnard please...

Located where the old Chuy's used to be (and just up the street from 5 Guys) is Smashburger. Busy would be understating how chaotic the parking lot and the atmosphere inside Smashburger was. The entire experience reminds me a little of Fudruckers and 5 guys. The front entrance funnels you toward the ordering area and after ordering you are left to fend for yourself for seating. Fortunately Smashburger has a great staff that tends to dirty tables, serves your food, checks in on how your meal is going, and great employees taking orders. Now for the food. I had a solid bleu cheese/bacon/jalapeno burger on a potato bun with smash fries. Everything was very fresh and was made to order. The jalapenos weren't even from a jar! My only quip would be my burger wasn't hot. It wasn't cold or luke warm but I just wanted it to be a little hotter. My lady enjoyed a good fresh mex chicken sandwich with a tasty side of chili fries. I had a taste of the fries and although I had to add some Cholula sauce to spice up the chili I was happy that they didn't skimp on the chili. I think Smashburger of TO is here to stay and I'm glad there is some variety on the menu. I am confident when I say I'd rather eat at Smashburger any day over 5 Guys. Overall 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

I would give a 3 1/2 for my first venture here. I had my food to-go. The wait was only about 8-10 minutes. I ended up getting the: FRESH MEX: $5.99 (regular size) Fresh avocado, fresh cilantro and onions, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and spicy chipotle mayo on a telera roll served with a wedge of lime. The flavors were great, the portion size was definitely plenty, no need for fries. One thing I didn't care for was the bun, felt like they could have used a different one. I also had the fries, they were okay. I just think overall the price for the burger is a little bit too much. I prefer Five Guys, simple yet so good! But I must say I will be back to try out some of the other dishes.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this place!!! We ordered hot dogs, a classic burger, the BBQ bacon burger with fried egg, chili cheese fries, and fried pickles.... All were super delicious!!! My favorite thing was that the burgers melted away in your mouth, truly!! They were really, really good. I can't wait to go back! Prices were reasonable.

I really like their BBQ bacon burger!!! Yummy!!! I also love the Haagen Dazs shakes!!! Service is slow... But they say it is because they are making the burgers from scratch. So don't come here if you need food pronto. ... But come here if you want a smashing burger!! Look out for coupons... They sometimes have buy one get one offers!

Never heard of this place before, but was in TO and wanted a non-standard burger. This place was nearby....and open. Love the fact the serve fried pickles, they were a bit greasy, it was about 30min to close on a Saturday and they may have been rushing. I got the L.A Burger: Crispy wonton, fried egg, cilantro, cucumber, lettuce, tomato and Japanese steakhouse ginger dressing on a black and white sesame seed bun. This was a good burger, weird with the wonton as it was huge, and I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do to order the free additions, but I left that to mess with next time. This was all about the burger. And it was good. Well seasoned, defiantly hand shaped, and "smashed" which is cool I guess. I would want to go back and experience it when they fully open and the manager is not vacuuming the floors under my feet....geez, how about you wait 20 minutes until you close and lock the doors. Super annoying/unprofessional. I will go back again though to try it once more before making up my mind. I am on the fence, due to the time I arrived, the service I received, and the closing-down operations underway when I arrived. If you close at 10p, when someone shows up at 930p, they should receive the same type/quality of service that some who shows up at 130p gets. Period. Unless the chairs are on the tables and people are running a vacuum at 130p at this place (which is another reason to not go back if that were the case) then I did not receive service indicative of what this place is all about. Therefore....I need to go try once more. Happy to do so.

The Truffle Mushroom Swiss burger is the best in my opinion. The burger is super juicy & the meat is very fresh, but the overall taste is amazing, very tasty. The fries are also very tasty & super thin. The meal is perfect to split.

It's been that kind of week. But if it has to be that kind of week where you have to eat fast food then Smash urger's your place! Great customer service and good quality food! Burgers are juicy and flavorful and served on your choice of bun. We had sesame and plain. We added blue cheese, bacon, onion, pickles, mayo, and ketchup to one and pepper jack, lettuce, and mustard to another. Both burgers were outstanding. Haystack onions were crispy and salty. Fries were just so-so. Prices are very cheap for the amount of food you get!

Look......... this place is so good, we stopped for a late lunch on the way to Camarrillo Outlets. We came back at about 10:30 pm on our way home from Camarillo Outlets. My wife called to verify when they closed. We were in luck, they were open until 11:00pm for the summer.

I actually really liked this place. It's kind of hidden... situated in the smallish strip mall on Moorpark.. where Whole Foods is. There are trees hiding it... so it's kind of hard to notice it... but you should notice it and you should try it out! I still don't know why Pumpkie didn't like it as much as I did... but I don't know... I really did... I think it's probably because I had something much more unique! :) I had the LA Burger... which was delicious! :) It was definitely not your traditional burger and was something much different than anything I typically have. The LA burger definitely has an Asian flare... which to me is different and intriguing when it comes to burgers....and it was just soooo good! The burger is a bit "smashed" which I personally like. I think Pumpkie's gripe was that it wasn't "flavorful" enough. I didn't have that issue... but I like my meat to be well cooked... and since it was smashed and thereby "flatter" - mine was cooked perfectly. I was a happy camper! Anyway, I digress, the LA burger came topped with a fried egg, cilantro (way too much for my taste - but this was easily remedied since they're served open-faced), cucumber, lettuce, tomato and this amazing Japanese ginger dressing. Have you been to Gyu-Kaku? Well, it tasted very similar to the dressing that they have on their salad... which I love. I was so happily surprised and it was just so good! They advertise the bun being a black and white sesame seed bun... which was true...and it added a sort of aesthetic to the bun... but it didn't matter much taste wise. Pumpkie and I shared an order of sweet potato fries. Those were also good. Topped with a bit of olive oil and rosemary. Yum! Liked the rosemary on the fries! The burger was so good though and very different. I also loved the little mesh wire baskets that the burgers are served in. Cute! All in all,I definitely say this place takes the place of Fuddruckers... which Thousand Oaks definitely needs! P.S. - They even have shakes in those old fashioned glasses like they used to there! Awesome! :)

We visited a Smashburger in Illinois this summer, so when we heard they were opening one right down the street, we were ecstatic! Visited this new location (and first for Southern California, I believe??) during lunchtime and the line was out the door! Service was super friendly as they asked if we had dined there before and tried to help us navigate the menu. The burgers are a 5-star for sure!! I'm not too keen on the rosemary garlic fries (too skinny and crispy) but my husband loves them! Smashburger is a bit pricey for a burger and fries, but then again you get what you pay for!

My wife and I saw the write up in the local paper. We had never heard of Smash Burger so we thought we would give it a try. It had just recently opened and we know how it is tough to get a new restaurant tuned up. Well, that was not a problem here. The staff was well trained and very nice. My wife had a traditional burger and I had a grilled chicken burger. Both were excellent. We will be back, check it out!

A great alternative to all of the burger offerings out in the area. While Smashburger doesn't hold a candle to Umami, it def is my preferred choice over others such as the Habit or Five Guys (both down the street). They have an amazing selection of burgers, on top of having a build your own option. Though they are a chain, they kind of add to their charm by having regional favorites. The "L.A. Burger" (which you can sub the beef patty for a fried or grilled chicken breast) contains a cavalcade of international ingredients, ranging from: fried egg, cilantro, fried wonton skins and ginger sesame dressing (DO NOT LEAVE THIS OUT, ITS DERICIOUS). You even have options for the frees (garlic and rosemary, anyone?). Oh and the best part? Super rich milkshakes made with Haagan Daas ice cream. yup, exactly.

Went during my lunch break and I still have time to write a review. Don't let the long lines discourage you. Service is extremely fast and super friendly. I ordered a BBQ, Bacon, cheddar SMALL SMASH burger (-60cents, so about $5.40) and fried pickles ($2.29). The total was $8.24 with tax. Burger was tasty and to the point. I loved the fried pickles. Had to dilute everything with water because of all the sodium but no complaints here. Happy Eating.

Overpriced and and not that great of a burger. I would say mcdonalds has them beat on quality and price. The patties are extremely small. I don't see why people go here. Five Guys is a much better option if you're looking for a gourmet burger.

This place is a mess. Its been awhile since I've eaten at a place that charges a premium to eat surrounded by dirty floors and tables. I must admit. Genius marketing...call it "smashed" and we will all gladly pay more for some skimpy piece of chicken or burger. Seriously my chicken was under a 1/4" thick.

Probably the best burger I've ever eaten. I got a BBQ bacon burger. Sweet Jesus it was Devine. Also their fries are very unique I've never had anything like them, very thin and crispy, I loved them, some of the best fries I've ever had. Definitely will come again, would recommend to any fellow carnivore.

Went here for dinner with my husband, older daughter and her boyfriend. When we went into the restaurant it had a slightly musty smell to it. The smell you would think of if someone used a dirty rag to clean with. We did tell the cashier of the smell. Luckily there is outdoor seating so we opted to eat outside so that we could enjoy our meal... Not to mention it was quite pleasant outside. My daughter tried the make you own black bean burger and she really enjoyed it. Her boy friend devoured the bbq bacon and cheddar burger and said that it was really good. My husband had the avocado club and said it was worthy of 4 stars. I enjoyed the classic burger. We all shared an order of fries and sweet potatoes which quickly disappeared. This is the 2nd time I've eaten here. The first time I rated it with 4 stars. This time I'm giving it 3 stars due to the smell. I hope this was something out of the ordinary. The food is worth coming back for, but if the smell is still there, I'll have to say goodbye to Smashburger at this location.

Food is a three and a half but the place is DIRTY. The lemons by the iced tea are nasty, all smashed together and slimy. The bathroom is in need of a serious cleaning. The outside patio tables are all dirty, scratched and there are old cigarette butts out there. Come on people, wipe the place down, sweep up the butts, figure out the lemons and please mop and wipe down the bathrooms. SmashYucky.

So I heard about this new burger joint in town, don't even know why the newspaper refers to it as the new burger in LA as TO is not even in LA, false advertising who cares. The good thing is that I found it and I tell ya it wasn't as busy when we went. The interior is nothing too exciting, none of your peanut shells or broiling meat aroma like the other spots. The nice thing about this place is that they have BEER. I know for the kids who don't drink it doesn't matter, but beer and savory burger go well. Okay I'm not promoting drinking but its in comparison to peeps with their steak and wine. I ordered their bacon cheddar burger with a side of chili fries. The chili fries were okay, nothing extraordinary then skinny fries covered in chili. But the burger, the meat was rich and perfect, they layered it with grilled onions. To be honest I hate onions, I swear I told them no onions but glad they didn't. Those suckers went well and was absolutely flavorful. Kinda wish that I had ordered the double instead of the "Big." As for the service here, it was great, the cashier was more than generous then to switch my drink with my favorite beer. Although I don't think that it is the norm, definitely nice that they will attend to their customers. The only downside to this place its located in freakin TO! why! sorry but I'm assuming some rich dude with money opened up the franchise there, now if another rich dude can open up one in the valley.

The fact of the matter is that Five Guys is temporarily "closed for renovations" which strikes me as odd as it is a relatively new restaurant. Anyhoo, the Missus and I opted for Smashburger, which in retrospect probably should have been our first choice anyway. We both had the "Create you own burger" which was kind of fun to decide what toppings and add-ons we wanted. I got the "Japanese Steakhouse Ginger Sauce" (or something like that) and it was damn good. Could there possibly be a better blank canvas for one to create a unique experience than the noble hamburger? The only bummer was that they had a small, hand-written note on the cash register that read what might be the saddest news since I read that Foie Gras would be harder to come by. The note read: No Bacon :-( Really? Effing really? Redemption points for having decent wine available by the split for $3.99. Sweet potato fries were pretty good, but the wife preferred the rosemary fries. SMASHING? No. smashing? Yes.

I love me some Smashburger. I love trying all the burgers that are unique to the area that the Smashburger is in. I got the LA burger and it has somethings on it that are not my thing but I really liked it. I would order it again. The smash fries are great as usual and I also got a nutter butter shake If you like nutter butters you will love this. cant wait to be back

Pretty standard burger joint. You walk in, order at the counter, pick a seat, and wait for your order to be delivered. The man behind the counter was extremely upbeat & friendly. I love it when people enjoy their jobs and have no fear of being goofy. We ordered two BIG barbecue bacon burgers (one free with a coupon) and an order of smash fries (rolled in olive oil & herbs). The burgers were huge. My two kids gobbled them up in mere minutes, with an occasional "oh my God mom, this is so good" thrown in (well, that and snorts because they were eating like little piggies). I'm a veggie- so I didn't have one. But a huge score from the kids. I, personally, enjoy a more "clean" burger (albeit veggie). The kids burgers were saturated in sauce, cheese, bacon, and fried onion rings. I believe they do offer a "clean" burger (burger, lettuce, tomato, avocado). The fries? Meh. After a few bites, we resolved they were too thin, too oily, and too "herby". Next time (and there will be a next time) we will get the regular fries. All in all, a solid burger experience. Certainly not a fine doing experience, but definitely worth a repeat. $5.95-$6.95 per burger Order time to burger in our hands: 10 minutes. We ordered @ 5:45 on a Tuesday evening.

This place is nothing to write home about. The food is very average at best. Far better options nearby such as The Habit.

its amazing. i believe that this is possibly one of the best joints ive been to. the burgers are juicy and of course smashed. the egg bun is exotic towards the fact of the places ive eaten at before.

I saw a Groupon for SB and since I was moving right off Moorpark rd. I thought it could come in handy for a quick meal while setting up the new place. I got there at 5:40 after going to Best buy, I was able to go back and check this time bc I just got off a call as I was walking in. I ordered to sweet a girl, then went to wait as it was for to-go. I left at 6:32. So roughly a 40-45 minute ticket time. Many people complaining "when is my order coming" not my style as I know it doesn't speed anything up. The excuse was the rush of CLU kids, there were maybe 30 and I know that was all of them as they were getting servered while I was there the whole time. I'm sorry but five guys, the habit and in and out can habdle these rushes in a solid 15 maybe 20 minutes. On the way out I saw a man with his daughter, wife and son just got in. I told him it was about 40 minutes wait time bc I know the kids can fuss and he may have a smoother friday night elsewhere. Had a couple sweet potatoe fries in the car, somehow they were just kind of warm anf you would think that at least with this wait I'd get piping hot fries. Baja cobb salad was tasty but I could have gone to trader joes and made the salad and fries at home much quicker. If the guys at work want to go I wont say no as, we will probably get a long lunch out of it.

The food was greasy and underwhelming and the salad came out as an oil soup. The grilled chicken on the salad looked like yesterday's leftovers microwaved to lukewarm. The burger itself was a squat "smashed" patty which could nearly have been eaten through a straw. The artisan bun acted as a wonderful sponge which attempted to soak up any of the grease which might have otherwise ran for cleaner pastures. As we asked about the salad an angry manager stormed out if the kitchen to let us know that "this isn't a healthy place we don't care about that, we only care about flavor". That would be fine by me but please add the flavor. As a side note on the salad the advice came back as "well tell her to get the dressing on the side". We were were polite and cordial, but got nowhere. We ended up telling the manager "it's fine keep the money". He was obviously upset and we didn't want to trouble him further. But, as restaurants go, that kind of management deserves an honest public review.

So far I've been waiting 20 minutes for a burger and fries. The place isn't very crowded and it appears fully staffed although none of the staff appears to be much over 18 years old. Food arrives at 23 minutes. The LA burger is very good. The smashfries, while tasty are very greasy and I end up leaving 1/2 the order in eaten. Overall the Habit is a better value with way way better service.

I try to stay away from fast food as much as I can, but sometimes I just crave a juicy burger and that's when I come to Smashbuger and order a LA burger. It's amazing, delicious and juicy.

So it's not InO or Shake Shack, but it's definitely a great burger! In fact, sometimes I opt for Smashburger over InO because it's really good and much less of a hassle. Their burgers are everything you could want in a burger: juicy and flavorful with lots of great fixin's. I also really like their sides, especially their regular fries, which are more of the shoestring variety. The sweet potato fries and onion rings are yum too, but the Smash fries are not my favorite (probably because they're seasoned with rosemary and just a little too greasy for my liking). If you order a shake, go for one of the "fun" flavors like Oreo or Butterfinger. The standard chocolate just didn't cut it for me and all i could do was compare it to InO's.

The BBQ, Bacon, and Cheddar is my go-to burger. Perfect blend of sweet, beefy, tangy, and crunchy with the haystack onions on them. As soon as I'm done I'm full but I immediately want another! I've never had a burger here that's over or underdone, the meat is never string and the patty is never greasy. Lines can be long but oh well that's what you get when your food is good. I like that they offer sweet potato fries as a side. YUM.

Wow this place had such a long line so it must be good right? I had a friend that drove all the way to San Diego to try Smashburger, so it was nice that we could try it in Thousand Oaks instead. I got the SPICY BAJA- Fresh jalapenos, guacamole, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, onion and chipotle mayo on a spicy chipotle bun. It was good! I was kind of surprised. We also had the haystack onions which were crispy and to my liking. Nothing that like blew me out of the water but it was good.

Most delicious shake ever: The Caramel Shake! But Smashburger's burgers... not so great. I like Wendy's, Five Guys, even McDonald's better, frankly. Pretty good fries. But again... that caramel shake is worth walking through the Sahara for. Out of this world! Too bad it is a limited offer.

I had the truffle mushroom swiss burger with smashfries here. I think the taste was good, however, my burger and the fries were so greasy. The bun was also very saggy. One bite and my hands were oily and I had this weird feeling in my stomach. My friend had a custom burger with bacon on it. I had a bite, and the bacon tasted good as well, but hers was also very greasy. I am giving it 3 stars just because of the taste.

Don't understand the negative reviews. I've been here about 4 times. They've gotten my order right every single time, and while the service wasn't speedy, it wasn't any slower than a typical made-to-order burger place. Burgers and chicken sandwiches were both tasty. The "smash fries" aren't quite as exotic as they describe on the menu, but still good. There is ALWAYS a coupon available on their website. You can get an instant coupon by playing their "smash the burger" game for 30 seconds (usually a free side), and you will get some sort of 2-for-1 coupon e-mailed to you if you sign up for their mailing list. Went there with my boyfriend yesterday, we each got a chicken sandwich with fries, bill came out to under $11 after the coupon! Can't beat that!

Bad experience and bad service from the store manager. His name was Rodney Humphry. I ordered a large order with about 10 burgers for takeout. When I got to my location I noticed they forgot my drinks so I had to drive all the way back to pick up my drinks. When I got back I got a text and phone call from the group back at the office stating that they forgot one of our burgers. I looked at my receipt and I was indeed charged for the burger and fries so I politely asked Rodney if I could get a replacement. He then started to accuse me of lying and kept stating that ever single burger was accounted for when he handed me my order. I told him that we wouldn't lie over a 6 dollar burger and I don't care if I have to pay for it again.... but we were positive that we didn't receive the burger. I had the girl on the phone with me back at the office and she was STARING at our order right there and yes indeed she confirmed that we were missing one burger that we ordered. So again I showed Rodney my text message showing the girl stating we were missing a burger... I showed him my receipt showing I paid for the burger... and just politely asked him to PLEASE REMAKE THE BURGER and give it to me so I can leave. He continued to rudely tell me that he is sure the entire order was in the bag. I told him again "WE ARE NOT LYING OVER A 6 DOLLAR BURGER" There is an employee back at the office that is sitting without his lunch and as my receipt shows I paid for it already. Can you PLEASE just make me the damn burger. He hands me the burger but gets one last chide in saying "we put the entire order in the bag" I get back to the office and ask my office to show me the entire order before anyone eats it. yes indeed I count all the burgers and we are missing the exact one we said we were missing. Hey Rodney. Just admit that there is human error... and that you could possibly have forgotten to put an extra burger in my bag. Don't fight back... don't roll your eyes... its a 6 dollar burger and if it was in the bag I wouldn't be haggling you to make me a new one. I called him when I got back to the office and told him that I in person am staring at the entire order... and the burger I said was missing is in fact missing. Someone needs to teach this guy some manners in customer service. The high school employees at the location were more concerned and showed better service and apologies than the store manager did.

Save the money you'd spend at smash for a plane ticket to Colorado, home of Larkburger. Their burgers would easily "smash" a smashburger in any competition! The first time I went was a few months ago. I ordered a BBQ bacon chesse burger, add egg. When I received it, I first saw there was no BBQ sauce so I went to the counter and asked for some. Then after sitting back down, I saw there wasn't bacon. Again, I went to the counter. Twenty minutes later, I was still waiting for the bacon. I went up again and they hadn't started making it, they forgot. I finally got the bacon and ate my cold hamburger. The manager attempted to correct this with a free hamburger coupon. With BBQ and bacon in the title, its ridiculous that they were left out. The second and third time were ok. This last time I order the "create your own" burger. I asked for spinach, egg and bbq sauce. When I received my burger, there were grilled onions. I have an onion allergy so I took this back. The shift lead put it back through the kitchen window and the cook wiped off the onions. When I got the burger back this was obvious by the onions still there. Plus, again they forgot BBQ sauce. I ended up switching with my friend who had a burger without onions. 2/4 times being decent is a 50% aka F. I will not be returning.

I admit, I was skeptical that I would like this place. The name, the decor, just felt a little gimmicky to me. BUT I have to say, their burgers are TASTY. Soft egg bun, juicy burger and classic fixings. Their burger patties are on the thinner side, but fresh, hand formed patties full of flavor. I usually get the Classic Burger, lettuce, tomato, mustard, mayo. I also tried their Nutter Butter Shake - vanilla shake with crushed Nutter Butter Cookies and a Chocolate Shake. Both were top notch. Served with the shake tin and plenty to share for 2. Their sweet potato fries and regular fries are satisfyingly delicious. I wasn't a fan of their veggie frites. Service is efficient and friendly. Sit down dining at this location can be limited during busy hours. All in all, a great addition to the burger scene in Thousand Oaks.

We came by here for dinner on a Friday night and it was packed. I expected the best burgers in the world...why else would every one be standing here?? The burgers are a bit expensive, but i guess i'm in TO and it's purported to be 100% angus beef, so that explains that. My daughter got the classic burger and a side of chili cheese fries, i got the Bacon Cheddar burger in "big" size and my son ordered a kids hot dog meal...wierdo!! $24 later, we're sitting at a dirty table. I know the place is packed, but someone should be out in the dining room bussing tables. I started grabbing some napkins to clean up the table top and some one finally came out and wiped off the tables. After about 10 minutes, someone brought our food to us. I wasn't very impressed. The chili fries had a dollop of chili and a trace amount of cheese. Hardly worth the $2.99 i paid for it. My "big" sized burger didn't seem any larger than my daughters's for the extra buck that i paid for it. It was cooked to just past medium rare, so it was still juicy, which was good, and it had decent flavor w/the bacon, cheese and onion straws. Over all, the meal was adequate, but i wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. Too much cash for too little food and service.

They might possibly have the best burger I have ever had. Their signature sear on one side of the burger adds a nice crunch. Their toppings menu contains some unique (for burger places) choices: spinach, goat cheese, Japanese ginger sauce, telera bread. They have plenty of pre-designed burger options (BBQ bacon and LA (with egg and fried wontons are tasty). You order at the counter and wait for your food to be brought to your table. Yes, you have to wait more than 2 minutes for your burger. This is not fast food. The burger is about 3/4 inch thick and it takes some time to cook properly. Because we all have had plenty of burgers, comparisons are inevitable. In-n-Out is not a fair comparison. They are in a different league as a SoCal icon. Great burger there, but a great one here too.

Disappointing. While you could tell the patty was fresh, there is little else to recommend this place. The burger was not seasoned. The egg bun was fresh, but too lacked in flavor. The haystack onions tasted of breading and little else. There are too many good burger places to make a repeat visit. I'll stick to The Habit, Fatburger and Five Guys instead.

Love the burgers here. Between smash burger and 5 guys, I'd prefer here. The service is better and it's not as expensive. Love the smash fries and I always get the bacon western style burger. Yum.

I've been to Smashburger in T.O. twice so far. It's located where the old Chuy's was, by the Whole Foods. The staff is attentive, polite and friendly. The location is easy to get to, ample parking, and very clean. The burgers are....... Burgers. Nothing spectacular. The quality of beef seems decent. Burgers are served hot and juicy. But the seasoning was lacking. Don't get me wrong. The burger was good, just not great. I did like the fact that you can select your desired burger toppings and condiments. The regular patty seems to get a bit lost once you start to add toppings, so I would recommend going with the 'Big'. When going to a "Burger Joint", I look for the novelty. Something that is unique to that particular place. All that Smashburger has is that it smashes a ball of ground beef with a spatula on the grill. Okay, nice gimmick, but that's it? That's all ya got? Come up with a few off the wall options. Deep fried bacon, peanut butter, cream cheese, something.... Anything! I rate it a solid 3 stars. Good burger, not great..... But in my opinion, better than the highly overrated Five Guys.

I heard about Smashburger and was looking forward to trying it. It was a fantastic burger. The meat is 100% Angus and it is full of flavor. I had the LA burger, it had a won ton, fried egg and it was an amazing burger. I tasted my wife's Spicy Baja it had Pepper jack cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, onion, spicy chipotle mayo and fresh jalapeños on a spicy chipotle bun, it was also very good. The chili has chunks of meat served with jalapenos, it had allot of flavor. The sweet potatoes and regular french fries were both some of the best I ever had. I can't wait to go back soon. Please open one close to my house

My wife and I were on the road and had the idea to try this place out. We looked up the website to get an idea of what they would have. We decided on Caesar Salads. We get there and turns out they don't serve them. The lady working said we should have picked their location. Would be nice if the menu was standard. Whats hard about a Caesar Salad anyway. I think one of the most popular salads. Also, inside the store was very hot. We sat outside of which was a very dirty area considering this was a nice shopping mall and in the high-class area of Thousand Oaks. Expected more!

The Pros: Well seasoned tasty burgers! The Cons: I have been there 3 times and they have yet to get my order right! Visit 1: Made a custom burger and they forgot the pickles - when I mentioned it I got a side so I felt taken care of! Visit 2: Another try at a custom burger and they forgot the jalapenos - I just let it go. Visit 3: Decided I would try one of the burgers off the menu, the Fresh Mex burger, after all it shouldn't throw them for a loop if it is something they make all the time. This time they forgot the avocado, which is the first ingredient listed!!! Finally, I have been there when there is a line out the door, literally, and only one cashier is taking orders. Yes, I wil likely go back and hopefully they will get my order right!

So...we just ate here for the third time and for what it is, it deserves 5 stars. My wife likes veggie burgers and the Black Burger is one of the best we've ever had. The portions are correct. And the price is great. For a "fast food" burger, I don't know why you would go anywhere else. With this two blocks away, I can't believe anyone would ever go to Five Guys. Also, for dining in, they have a bucket of 4 beers for $10. And I'm not talking Bud and Coors. This is good beer--like Stone and Dogfish Head. That alone deserves 5 stars. Also, some of the other reviews I read don't make sense. The stems on cilantro are edible. And you are supposed to eat them. Not knowing that kind of explains more about you and your tastes than the fact that someone didn't sit for an hour and peel every leaf off the stem so you could cry about it on Yelp. Also, burgers do not travel to go very well. You may want to consider that. And if it's a juicy and well-made burger, it is especially true. The staff is always friendly and efficient and I won't go anywhere else in town for the fast food burger unless it's closed and we end up at In-n-Out...

"Satisfactory. Better than that other place down the street." -Husband. What he means to say is, Smashburger is decent, and probably better than Five Guys. However, it wasn't all that exciting. Personally, I still tote In-N-Out as my favorite fast food burger, but Smashburger is nothing like that place so it's hard to compare. My husband had a standard cheeseburger while I tried their black bean vegetarian burger. Can't say I enjoyed the black bean burger, even though I've enjoyed them elsewhere. Also, being new and exciting, the wait was looooooong....both to order and to wait for our food. They do have lots of options, including chicken sandwiches, turkey burgers, and oodles of toppings. I may try it again and get an actual burger. Stay tuned!

First impressions on this establishment weren't entirely positive. The location is terrible. It is in a corner spot in a crowded retail parking lot and parking, even at 2:00pm on a Monday, was nightmarish. When I walked in the restaurant seemed to be clean, but I was immediately given a nearly sarcastic welcome by the woman behind the corner. The menu was very straightforward, but I was a little surprised to see a simple burger place complete a la carte. I ordered the BBQ, Bacon & Cheddar burger with Smashfries and a Diet Coke to go. I'm not exactly cheap, but I was a bit put off by the $12 pricepoint for a simple burger, fries and drink. The first thing that irked me when I opened the bag was the fries. The container they were in was barely 2/3 full, and the fries were limp and soggy, over-saturated with the garlic and oil sauce. Things got a bit better when I pulled out the burger. It looked amazing, and smelled even better. I dove in and I have to admit the burger tasted quite good. Unfortunately it wasn't until I was about half way through the burger I noticed it was still nearly raw the closer to the center I got. I immediately stopped eating it, shrugging it off and going back to work. Now it's 10:00pm and I'm writing this review from my laptop on the toilet, since I haven't been able to leave the bathroom in hours. Yeah. Food poisoning. After blasting on facebook that I got sick from this place, I have now had two other friends tell me they have become ill after eating there as well. No way you'll ever get me through those doors again. TL;DR = Customer service was underwhelming, fries were utter garbage, and even though the burger tasted great, it gave me f**king food poisoning.

I'm giving one star because of the customer service. My family have been here 5 times since opening and EVERY time our order is ALWAYS incorrect!!! When brought to the staff and managements attention, they were rude and never offered to fix our order all 5 times!!!! The food is good, but the experience is HORRIBLE!!!! Very very disappointed! Have not been back since 3 months after they opened for business.

  • Geoff T.

I cannot tell you about the food, because I have only been here once, and unfortunately I never got to the point I could eat the food. This place was a tour de force of customer service issues, mainly from the manager by the name of Mike. Let me start by telling you I didn't want a problem. I drove over 20 miles to try Smash Burger because I had heard such good things about it. I drove up the grade from Oxnard, so on one of the hottest days of the year I volunteered to head into an area that is often 25 - 30 degrees hotter than it is at my home on the coast. I wanted this to be great, but it quickly degenerated into a poor experience. Really the issue boils down to a very simple concept. Help your customers. When we got there the place had a line of customers out the door, and you think man this has got to be great. But then you wait for 10 minutes in the blistering heat of over 100 degrees and you get inside and you see that 25% of the tables have no customers and there are 15 employees in sight of which half are standing around talking. Now I will say that when someone left a table they would snap to and clean that table immediately, bet generally no one was interested in doing anything else. Once we got inside we waited another 10 minutes in blessed air conditioning. But the problem was that there were tons of people standing around and only 1 register opened. They had 2 employees standing by another register but they were talking about the dates they were on the night before, not work issues. I know this because I was standing 24 inches away. When we got near the front of the line, I asked if I could speak to a manger. Manager Mike showed up and I asked him why they have so many people just standing around when they have a really long and slow line. Mike immediately showed me who is boss. He told me in no uncertain terms that I can just mind my own business, and that they only have 2 registers. So I asked him why if you have 15 employees and 2 registers can you not open both of them? He rudely responded in the most condescending tone that they would open them when they were god damn good and ready. I couldn't believe that I was being treated with such utter disrespect. But lets remember I drove 20 miles and braved the heat and the 20 minute line and it was my turn to order. So I ordered and a nice girl took our order and was very professional. It was obvious she was distressed by what was going on around her and she clearly wanted to do the best job she could. I almost want to give this place a second star just because how obviously uncomfortable she was in how we were otherwise being treated. I ordered a custom burger with Cheddar, Bacon, Lettuce, grilled onions and ketchup and mayo. Unfortunately that is not was I got when my burger came out. I got a cheddar lettuce, Ketchup and Mustard, which is really not that close to what I ordered. It had no bacon which they charged me $1.50 for or onions or mayo. So I went back to Manager Mike to complain. Mike told me that they made me what I ordered and that I should stop lying about what I ordered and just eat my food. I responded by pulling out the receipt and showing him the charge for bacon. Unfortunately they don't put down the whole order on the recipt so you cannot prove that they got it wrong, but when the cashier rang me up she repeated my order back to me perfectly. So the issue I believe had to be down stream from there. I asked for my money back and Mike gave me a bad time about this. I told him that I was going to write a review and that my experience was not positive, and he said that was great. He acted very happy that I was in fact so unhappy. I told him that I was very disappointed in how I was treated and that this was my first and likely my last trip to Smash Burger, and he told me that is great too and they they didn't need customers like me. I don't know what he meant by that but it really felt like he was just saying he didn't need customers. Over all it was one of the worst dining experiences I had in years. Hopefully it won't be that way for the majority of people going there. But if you do have a problem, don't talk to Manager Mike. He really doesn't care about your experience!

Absolutely amazing!! The fried chicken sandwich is totally addictive!! When I asked about how spicy the mayo was the girl behind the counter was sweet enough to bring me out a sample. The fries are perfect, although I have had them mess up my order in a very minor way every time I go. ( not having smash sweet fries just plain sweet fries ) and they forgot one of the free add on toppings. But all in all the food is amazing, the people are nice and I can get it just the way I want it!

Horrible. Dirty restaurant, greasy food, staff not friendly. Definitely an ownership/management issue. Since the few times I have been there, it is understaffed and the two people there try running everything, which is impossible. My family and I stopped going there. I give them 1 more year to stay in business if they keep things the way they are. I have ordered the grilled vegetables, they are covered in grease. Burger is fatty and the buns are greasy. Go elsewhere.

Okay vegetarians, you are gonna find the best spicy bean burger right Here. Yes at this burger place. Delicious and flavorful... Over the top flavor and texture. Not a mushy flavorless veggie burger you get other Places. I crave this luscious spicy bean burger. Give it a try.

Mmm yeah, I'd totally smash that burger. I've been here twice in the last two weeks and I'm now a definite fan. I work nearby so I used to hit up Five Guys when my burger cravings kicked in, but I've since converted my allegiance! First time I went I ordered the Classic, which has all your basic ingredients: American cheese, tomatoes, ketchup, mustard, onions, and pickles. I highly suggest opting for the "big smash" because that upgrades you to a 1/2 pound patty for only a buck more. The regular smash size is only a quarter pound (for those that have the appetite of a 4 year old kid). Burger is legit. In fact it's too legit. Too legit to quit. Cheese is nice and melty, the bun is delicious, solid, and holds up to the weight of the ingredients, the patty is juicy, and the bacon is fresh, crispy, and....well it's bacon! My only gripe is that their fries are just like The Counter's fries: small, skinny, heavily lacking in flavor, and not worth the extra few bucks. Since this place is so close to Five Guys, I'm seriously considering going to FG first to order fries, then coming here to get ma burger. SOLID GOLD, BABY

My sister and I went here to see what the hype was about. It was pretty much all just hype... I ordered the mushroom swiss burger, and my sister ordered the classic burger. We also order the sweet potato smashfries and the fried pickles. The burgers were good...nice and juicy. I asked for jalapenos on the side for mine and they ended up giving me a side of fresh sliced jalapenos, I was expecting pickled jalapenos...i guess i should have asked. The sweet potato smashfries were ok. The fried pickles were ok as well. They serve the fried pickles with bottled ranch...i do not like bottled ranch. It would have been so much better with real ranch. I cannot fathom why people eat bottled ranch...such a disappointment. One other gripe...they serve the food in these metal baskets with a little basket liner...the basket liner doesn't really absorb the burger juice. Burger juice ran all over the table. Luckily I didn't get any on my shirt. Just something to watch out for. Honestly, I would much rather eat at In-n-Out...much cheaper and much more satisfying. I think we ended up spending $20 on lunch. The best part of the day was stopping next door at Stan's donuts and getting an orange old fashioned donut!

FOOD We're huge fans of their mushroom burger. It has a heavy butter flavor and is too die for. The fries are yummy as well. We've had other burgers, but the others aren't really worth remembering. When we go here, we only order the mushroom burger. My kids get the hot dog or grilled cheese and they both like them. SERVICE Friendly and fairly fast. They bring the food to you. ATMOSPHERE Child friendly. PRICE About right.

Location Location Location And this location is bad. It's in a busy shopping center along with Whole Foods and the area for parking is extremely limited. I knew it would be busy so close to the opening and with all the hype so I was impressed that I was only in line for about 5 minutes. I picked my options, ordered my burger and decided to try the Smashfries. Burger was good, fries were not. They are listed as having rosemary, olive oil and garlic - to me they were just soggy garlic fries. But as I sat at the counter looking out the window, I watched the problems with the parking situation. There is a small row of parking available on the street side of the restaurant, only about 5 spots there. But there is a space next to the handicap spot that is a walking path, but you can't see that it's not a parking space until you turn into there. And there is no outlet so once you've turned in and realize there's no open spots, you have to go in reverse and pray you don't get hit by cars turning in from Moorpark Rd. While I was eating my burger, I must have seen 30 cars turn in, realize the error and struggle to reverse out.

Not the greatest burgers I've ever had, but certainly the best in the area, in my opinion. Habits and Five Guys are okay, but hey, guys have to watch their figures too! Okay doesn't always cut it, yanno? I love how you can create your own burger here (and egg bread omfg!). They didn't bat an eye when I asked for raw AND grilled onions - something I typically have to clarify an extra time or two elsewhere. The cashier, Jordan, was very friendly and helpful in explaining to me the difference between the burger sizes. The rest of the staff seemed generally friendly and happy enough doing their thing. Came for lunch on a weekday and it wasn't too loud or anything, though I've walked by during dinner hours (on a Sunday even) and have seen the place packed full. Prices and sizes were pretty agreeable. Fried pickles with ranch (no hidden charges - perk!) were perfect. My only bit with the place is that you can't order how you'd like your burger cooked. Despite a distinctive lack of pink in my burger, it was still juicy and quite tasty - I'll be back when my next burger craving comes along. :)

I attended the soft opening and found the burgers to be extremely juicy and flavorful. May be the best burger I have had yet. ask for the sin city burger, but you wont find it on the menu.

Underwhelming. Sat at our dirty table for several minutes until we flagged someone to wipe it. I ordered the Mex (can't remember what it was called exactly) big burger. The patty was under-seasoned and the avocado was not ripe. The menu stated it came with some sort of sour cream mayonnaise, but whatever it was, it was without taste or flavor. Perhaps I should have stayed with the classic. The fries sucked. Not much else to say there. On a positive note, my wife enjoyed her LA burger, as did my daughter (mushroom burger). Definitely not enough to bring us back again.

Exceptional service, great fries of all kind. The beef burgers are tasty, but not extraordinary. The veggie burgers, however, are exceptional. Overall, pretty darn good.

This review is mainly about the food. That being said, I ordered the mushroom Swiss burger. I just don't get it. Why is it that eateries treat mushrooms like gold? Seriously if I peeled each slice of mushroom off it would not make up 1/4 of a whole mushroom. Honestly I wish Mcdonald 's still sold their mushroom Swiss. I know. I know. But it was better than this one. It also consisted of a potato bun which I have to say was good BUT only because it was covered in butter. The entire thing was greasy. It left blobs of grease (butter?) at the bottom of the basket. So when you sit your burger back down, it's in a pile of grease. I pressed down on the bun to just to test it and yes, it built up a slick on top of the bun. I ordered the regular size and it was fine for me. The guys ordered the large and it didn't look that much different. Might be, just couldn't tell. But I do think they wanted a bit bigger burger for the $7 - $9+ price (burger only). Shakes I heard were good. Overall I think everyone thought it was just okay to good. But with the food competition in that area, I think Smash needs to step it up.

I went for lunch ordered a regular with blue cheese and grilled onions and a side of Smash fries. The burger was cooked exactly as ordered and tasted GREAT! The fries with a subtle seasoning were really good. Great Burgers, quality ingredients, awesome friendly service, nuff said!

Good burgers, fried onions, fried pickles. Bucket 'o Beers $10. Just need to get their groove on. The Sin City Burger should be on the menu Vegas shouldn't have the exclusive on that.

Tasty burger but no fries. Order was wrong, long line, manager was just hanging around and credit card machine down.

I heard good things about this place and I love Burgers so I was looking forward to trying them. When I walked in the smell was so bad I started heading for the door, but then I looked around and the place had a few people in it so I decided to just go for it (big mistake) I should have listened to my instincts. First off the staff there were very young and I might say not the cleanest looking, I didn't see any type of managerial figure in the place. As I was waiting for my burger I saw the kitchen and in the kitchen there was this big pile of meat that everyone was walking past with no hair nets or gloves, also the kids were talking over this meat and like I said these kids weren't the cleanest. UGH it was disgusting, maybe it was the time of day I went there but as of now I will NOT refer this Smashburger to anyone, someone needs to get the board of health in there.

We tried Smash Burger today and enjoyed it. My BBQ bacon cheeseburger with onion strings was very tasty. I also liked the Smash fries. I like this burger better than Habit and Five Guys. I will definitely be returning.

I loved this place! FIrst time we have ever been, and it did not disappoint. The prices are reasonable, and the food was delicious. I can't wait to come back. You have to put one in the Antelope Valley!!

  • Jennifer K.

OK, hate to say it because the employees are super friendly but... food's just OK. Nothing special about the burgers. My husband said the classic tasted like Wendy's, the fries were average, not really worth the fat and calories. In and Out still better.

  • Sara P.

After eating here 3 times I've decided its inconsistent as far as the burgers go. I ordered the Tex Mex burger the 2nd time I was there and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. Juicy, tender, bun was soft and wonderful, toppings were fresh. Really good. So good I went back and ordered the same thing today. I took 2 bites and asked for my money back (which they were very nice about). The bun was so hard I couldn't cut it in half. The meat was dry and tasteless, the cheese unmelted, and the cilantro was all stems. Horrible. If it had been the 1st time I'd eaten here I wouldn't go back. The sweet potato fries are always good, but everything else is hit and miss. I could try and figure out who's running the grill on which days, but I'd rather just go to In N Out.

  • Honest C.

We waited over 30 minutes for our food. They also ran out of haystack onions. Service was seriously bad. Food was good. Not life changing. No better than 5 Guys, or In N Out in my opinion.

  • Geoff B.

Just terrible service. Cashiers take forever. Line out the door and only one register opened. Four nights ago got there fairly late; place was filthy-food left on most tables and floor. Soft drink dispenser area covered with "stuff". Will not go back even though food taste is above average.

    (1)
  • Jim B.

Outstanding burgers. Fresh ingredients. Also like the haystack onions. Fries not my favorite.

  • Carey A.

This was my first time here and I had heard a lot of hype about this place. However, I have to say I was somewhat disappointed. The outdoor eating area was filthy and there was no trash receptacle for customers. Furthermore, they did not have a Caesar salad on their menu, which is what I really wanted at the time, even though it was on the franchise menu. However, I am willing to give it another chance and to try what I'm sure they are famous for-their burgers!

Really, really good! Customer service today was EXCELLENT! Food quality and variety was great! We will be back real soon! We had the onion strings, avocado club burger and the BBQ bacon burger with fries. All very good! The shakes are excellent! Top quality, made with Hagen Daz!!!

  • Victoria S.

No doubt the burgers are delicious, however, the service, and the attitude of the employees, ruined the visit. After ordering our single burger and the smash fries, we waited twenty minutes for our food. The fries were delivered un-smashed and when we went to the register to return them and ask for what we ordered, we were assured they would be right out. Fifteen minutes later, no fries, the burger long gone, and the woman at the register was extremely put out to refund our money. There are too many other good places to have a burger so, we won't bother going back.

    (2)
  • Geoffrey B.

I went there last night, and I can honestly say it was below average. They messed up both our orders. The burgers are below average nothing special to them and they are a bit on the dry side. The service is average. i feel they are overpriced for what you get. I love burgers and love going to new places to experience burgers, but this place is in a horrible location and is not very good. Take it this was my first and last time at this establishment. Beware if you like good Burgers then this is not the place for you.

Fresh meat burgers and buns. Excellent. Tasty. Fried pickles very salty. Smashburger fries rosemary seasoning didn't really go with the Classic burgers. Didn't know they serve alcohol as it wasn't on the menu. Will go back and have a burger and beer or wine.

Smashed It! Their burgers are awesome. Order at the counter eat at your table but I took it to go. Seriously way better than Five Guys. For two burgers, 1 fries, and 1 Chili Fries I think i spent like $18 bucks. A little pricy but thats what all these burger places are about these days. I didn't mind the money after I tasted the burger, totally worth it. I'll be going back.

    (5)
  • Alex W.

Been here twice now. It's a good burger . Ive had the avocado club burger and mushroom swiss. the big burger is $7. Maybe slightly overpriced since that's all you get, but as i said it is a good burger. I guess in order for me to give it a higher rating they would have to make it the way I really like my burgers which is medium rare. That's not an option at smashburgers as is true with most fast food establishments. I'd have to say smashburger is probably better than THe Habit and Five Guys. It's been my first choice lately in T.O. for burgers so I guess Im a fan.

If I had ordered to go I might have given this place 5 stars, but I didn't so they got knocked down a star. First it was super crowded on a Saturday around lunch....I know what did I expect.....well one thing I did not expect is to have to bus the empty table I wanted to sit at after waiting 10 minutes hoping someone would clear off any one of the 4 empty tables, but nope that never happened. So I had to get a napkin and move some stuff to another table that was waiting to be bussed. It wasn't a matter of staff either because a few people walked by and just looked at the dirty tables a few times, and we were not the only family to bus someone else's dirty table so we could sit down. And by the time we were ready to leave, 2 of the 4 original dirty tables still had not been bussed. They give you a number when you order but some server still came over and asked if I ordered a cheddar bacon burger...yes...... he put it down, then asked about another plate of something else he had, which was not ours, so he took mine away cause he had the wrong order....why do they even pass out numbers????? My husband ordered a soft drink....they were out of iced tea, out of coke syrup, out of sprite syrup, and out of lemonade (I know what's left to drink right?). So that is why they get 2 stars knocked off.....service, and shortage of stuff, that and their fries are just ok. If I had to judge just based on the burger they would have had 5 stars. I wanted a black bean burger but SURPRISE.....they were out of that. I had a cheddar bacon burger instead. Just the regular size. I don't like overly gigantic meaty burgers and this was just right on a toasty bun with straw onions. I also shared a mint oreo shake, I could not taste the mint. So in a nutshell the burger saved them and that is why they get 3 stars, without it they would have had a big fat 1 star.

Have you ever had a satisfying home-made hamburger off the grill? Do you remember what it tasted like? ...Can you imagine that succulent juicy beef, married to the warm cozy bun, melting in your mouth? Well, Smashburger tastes *nothing* like that! For my trial run here, I tried the Avocado Club burger. The beef patty, which was thin and ... well, smashed ... was so salty it reminded me of a McDonald's breakfast sausage. The bun was on the verge of being stale, and the avocados were completely bland (far from the creamy product that a Southern California resident might expect.) Similar in quality were the "Smashfries," which do little more for your palate than give you bad breath. Ironically, if **those** had had some salt, I'd given them a higher rating. The Häagen-Dazs milkshake my wife and I shared was fine, but neither the vanilla base nor the candy mix-in is a Smashburger product, so I'm not factoring that into my rating. I give Smashburger two stars for service (my wife and I went just before rush-hour and were pleased with the dining experience) and the value (a bit overpriced, but not outrageous for the portion). Really, though, my meal was quite a disappointment after all the hype we had been hearing. As far as fast-food burgers are concerned, In-N-Out is better and I've had fresher product served to me at Islands. If you like over-salted average-quality food, then order a beef burger. If you figure that - for the fat and calorie content you're willing to ingest for an "American Meal" - you might as well get something that actually tastes good, then go somewhere else.

Before reading this you need to know that A. I don't eat red meat so this ONLY applies to their chicken burger and B. I had to end up cutting them a little slack because they seemed to hire newbies to the restaurant biz. So, I walked in a little after 5 on a Friday after skipping my lunch at work and becoming ravenous for a delicious meal. I lucked out as there were only 4 people before me. But I noticed the line wasn't moving. At all. For 15 minutes, we all watched as the manager was reversing a transaction. She didn't look up at us, her waiting, starving customers, and say, "sorry for the wait, we'll be right with you" or something along those lines, or even think of opening the second register that was right next to her. Duh. So, as I was waiting and my stomach was slowly digesting itself from my starvation, I noticed this place had a bunch of teenagers floating around as employees. The manager was an adult, of course,, but she moving as slow as the rest of her crew. There was no sense of urgency, and it makes me FURIOUS when I see employees standing around and chatting, doing absolutely nothing. The did not seem to know what the word PROACTIVE means. (and no, not the acne medication) When the transaction was finally resolved and the line was moving, I ordered the Smash Sweet Potato Fries and the Caribbean Chicken Burger. I sat and waited about 10 minutes before my food was ready to take home. When I got home, I picked at the fries first, which was made with rosemary, garlic and olive oil. It was OK, but I had to focus on my birdy burger before I got full on fries. First of all, I did have time to check out the menu on line so I had the Colorado Chicken Burger on my mind. It had green chilies, cheese, on a spicy chipotle bun. Sounded Yummy. But it wasn't on their menu. The Caribbean Chicken Burger wasn't on line but it sounded good. It had mango, pineapple, and some type of spicy mayo something. The paper that was wrapped around my burger was dripping with sauce. Ew. But I was so famished that I tore at the burger. I immediately noticed that the "100% Chicken Breast" was tasting like yes, 100% chicken breast, but made from all kinds of chicken parts. It had worse quality than the chicken burgers at Carls Jr. (no disrespect, I am still a huge fan of their charbroiled chicken sandwich!) But this was pretty disgusting. I HATE fatty pieces of chicken. It was like grade Z chicken breast! The entire burger itself was super overwhelming, Very spicy, and there was wayy too much going on with the mango/pineapple salsa stuff, chicken, and the oozing sauce. I quit after 3 bites! So, decent priced food. Around $6 to $7 dollars on some of these burgers. Fries are ok, but I do have to give props to the girl at the register, she was super nice and knowledgeable of the menu. I just don't know if I am willing to try another birdy burger.

0 stars for this location! I'm a fan of sb in fact a regular at my sb. I'll keep it short and to the point! We ordered Togo a kids meal and a burger. The burger was RAW! That's right! Grazing the fields. Not edible just seared. The kids frys, so bad and not edible as well. they looked and tasted like they were sitting in their kitchen for an hour then refried them for us!

Poor customer service and dirty!! Hydration station had sodas/tea spilled all over the counter to where you count find a clean spot to put your cup down. Staff are not truly focused on the customers!! I was in the restaurant and needed to place an order to go so instead of waiting in the long line I called to place my order on the phone and the staff (female) that answered the phone stated "we do not take phone orders" and then threw the phone across the counter. Little did she know I was sitting there watching this horrific display of unprofessionalism. I will not be returning or recommending!!

Went on October 21st. Been there once before and enjoyed it. Would have sworn it was a different restaurant! First they were out of fries and clean shake cups. So the gave us small to go cups. Got half as much and charged full price. Burger was a greasy over cooked mess. Drove out of my way to go. Won't do that again!

I had the Swiss mushroom burger and it was really good. I also had the chili cheese fries, also very good. The beef was cooked very well and was very fresh. I can see why everyone comes here. This place was packed for a sunday afternoon. The only issue I had was when we ordered it took a long time for us to get our food.

First trip to smashburger and the burgers are pretty good, and they better be cause this place was busy and packed. Love me some fresh made or order burgers. Plus they have sweet potato fries, one of my favorites. I'm glad there was a line because the menu is big and it took me forever to figure out what to order.

Went to the opening day.....and they were very polite and helpful. The girl at the counter took the time to explain things to me. There is a burger option to get just a quarter pounder instead of their regular 1/3 lb and their large 1/2 lb burger. I got the smallest one and it was ok....I probably will get the 1/3lb next time. I ordered their BBQ burger; it came with BBQ sauce, cheese, bacon and onion strings. It was very good and the egg bun was outstanding!! There are 2 options for fries; the smashfries and regular fries. Smashfries have olive oil, garlic and rosemary. They were good but a bit greasy. I will most likely get the regular fries next time (they just have sea salt on them). All in all, I really liked Smashburger and think its a slightly more expensive burger then 5 Guys, but a much better quality burger.

My niece in Idaho loves Smashburger and told me there was one in TO. picked up lunch today for my Mom and we all loved it! I was apprehensive at first because the line was really long. It went fast and the staff was very efficient. They bagged the food by person so figuring out what belonged to who was very easy. I will definitely be back!

I have yet to be disappointed by Smashburger. All of the burgers I've tried (LA, mushroom swiss, mexican, avocado club, and bacon BBQ burgers) have been tasty, and the smashfries are the best! You cannot leave this place without a milkshake either. Definitely try the chai tea and Oreo milkshakes (made with Haagen Dazs ice cream!).

  • Staci F.

Burgers are my thing, I go everywhere to try and find the best burger. So when I heard this smash burger opened up in town, I had to try it. I made my usually mistake though, because I have been watching my calories, I went for the veggie burger and veggies, instead of burger and fries. The veggie burger didn't hold up at all, it was too big for the bun so it kept falling apart. It wasa black bean veggie burger and it just tasted like mashed black beans. Bad idea. As far as the fried veggies, they were hardly fried at all. I will definatly give it another go but Next time I will have to try an actual burger and French fries.

  • Cris M.

I'm impressed. Better than the Five Guys down the street (which is just greasy), The Ranch off Lindero, the sad Umami opening that will close shortly, and The Counter. Fresh, and just different enough to make you come back.

I really liked the meat in my burger. It was juicy, seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The service was not great. The cashier that took our order yawned while the guy ahead of us was ordering - not a good first impression :( They were out of onions and our table was out of ketchup so we took one from another table and it was low too. They messed up my hubby's burger.

I love the BBQ bacon burger!! Great burger but very bad price for the amount of food you get.. I also got the chili cheese fries! DON'T try the Chili it's Yuck... In other words I won't go back unless they dropped the prices!!!

Had my second visit today and it was better than the first if that was possible. The highlight is the beautiful egg roll topped with a perfectly prepared burger with cheese. I asked the server whether I had the proper size fries and he said it was--the only disappointment of the evening (I thought it was a tad too small). I will continue to be a regular here!!

    (5)
  • Dan H.

Crowded, a bit expensive, but really good food and service. The very helpful girl who took my order suggested the L.A. burger (apparently it is her favorite). I wasn't sure how an egg and wonton and cilantro and cucumber would work on a burger, but... it did! Can't wait to try other options on their simple, but fun menu.

Also found this place while using yelp. The burgers are excellent and are very fresh. The downside to this place is the wait time and service. For being a so called fast food joint, I had to wait over 30 minutes before my food was delivered to my table. Also, the staff was not on top of cleaning tables in the restaurant. The burger I ordered was suppose to have fried onions on it, but I was told they were out. My daughter wanted some chicken item off the menu, and the cashier said they ran out of chicken. Also, the table next to us had their food delivered and the guy delivering the food said they were out of the chili they ordered and had to give them a refund. I had read other reviews, but figured I would at least give the food a try. Glad I did!! Everything else like service and small details can be improved on, but the food here is worth it!!!!

  • Sherri C.

Burger was good, fries were just ok. Service was HORRIBLE!!!! Order arrived wrong and then it got worse. The server was beyond rude and actually threw our food down walked away then turned around and gave us the stink eye when she replaced our wrong order with the proper order. Complained to the assistant manager and she was not much better which explains why her staff is so comfortable being so rude. We will never go back. Five Guys is just down the street and has awesome burgers and fries and wonderful service!

  • Marty M.

Very tasty burger cooked to order. Shoestring fries tossed with rosemary, olive oil and garlic. Nice touch. The burger was juicy with a nice meaty taste. The smash sauce was kinda like thousand island which made the bun a little too soft but they offer a choice of buns. They have good looking milk shakes but too filled up to try. Only thing that kept it from being 5 star were the servers. They still need a little training on the floor. It was busy yet 3 of them kept hovering over their friends table. One even ate some of their fries. Not a big thing but eventually the manager will spot it. Not nearly a deal breaker I'll be back!

    (4)
  • Alejandro E.

I ordered a bacon cheese burger. Was good. The meat is bland, but the salty onion nest fixes that. The garlic rosemary olive oil fries were soggy and no garlic taste, they have to spray the oil with a mist and not drizzle it. That should solve the sogginess. I gave this place 4 stars because the girls that work there gave outstanding friendly service and were accomodating to all my needs. They also need music there.

  • Gilbert M.

The burger joint is very good. There are so many burger places in Thousand Oaks it's incredible. Smashburger has a strange name but the food is top notch. The prices are good, the selection of burgers is fantastic. Their fries are so good, and the people working there are friendly. My only issue is the setup of the restaurant, it's a bit cramped inside, there is not much room to move around. It just felt like you go there order your food then leave don't bother siting down. But after all of what I've said I would go back for more delicious heart stopping goodness.

    (3)
  • Gary W.

Good burgers but amazingly incompetent kitchen both times I've been here. Getting everybody's orders wrong and taking forever to do it. Manager is inept.

    (2)
  • Rachel E.

YOU CAN'T CALL YOUR ORDER IN AHEAD! Manager gave some B.S. about the quality of the order suffering. I was told to come in because there wasn't a line (about 2:30pm). I got there and found a bunch of folks a head of me. Only 1 cashier was working. I enjoy the food, but I don't enjoy the hassles.

  • Rick C.

My wife and I have dined at Smashburger on a few different occasions as we've passed through Thousand Oaks . We have now tried several different burgers and they have all been amazing and exceptional. Highlights for me have been the "L.A." and "BBQ, Bacon, & Cheddar". Their artisan buns are great and worth noting. We've tried most all of the sides and everything has been high quality. Aside from the food, the staff is friendly and helpful as well. The problem for us it that they are so far away with no current Orange County locations. Now when we are craving a burger, In-N-Out or Habit don't sound as exciting now that Smashburger has raised our burger bar.

Wow, LOVE Smashburger! These are really delicious burgers. To me, they blow Five Guys away. However, I think the Five Guys Cajun Fries are better. I got the regular and that was a huge burger! I can't imagine eating the other 2 that are bigger than that! It was a great selection, very clean and the service was very friendly. I also LOVED the Fried pickles. These aren't so easy to find in Southern California. They are thinly sliced with a tasty batter and they give you a side of ranch dressing. The prices are very good for all of the food you get. I ordered a kids burger for my daughter and that burger was huge also! She couldn't even finish half! Although she loved it! Their Haagen Daas Shakes looked amazing. Maybe will try next time.

Long lines, but very friendly staff standing by to cater to your needs (and quickly too!). The burgers are juicy and cooked to perfection, and I appreciate the funky combinations their menu offers. I ordered the Sin City burger (not on the menu) and it has a fried egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, Smash sauce, onion rings and bacon. I added fried pickles and avocado. What a delicious combination! Make sure to add fried pickles to your order, they are super flavourful.

Great Burger! Closest thing to a Steak and Shake this side of the Rockies.

IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS! My Family and I have been several times to try different items on the menu and have never been disappointed! Fast friendly service from the staff, well decorated and very clean, all the different topping choices for your burger or veggie burger/chicken/hotdog (made the way you want it) and all fresh ingredients and ingredients you can't find at other fast casual burger places, they bring your order to the table and are always ask if they can get you any thing else and are happy to oblige! Mouth watering fresh burgers, full of flavor, (and different burgers designed for all the different locations),love the choice of sides, deep fried pickles and sweet potatoe fries, to mention a few, but wait I'm not done, the Hagen Daas shakes are to die for, they bring it in a shake glass, but also bring the container cup to you with the remaining shake, who does that any more in this economy? The price is right on, you get your monies worth here! I've read some of the reviews, mostly great, a few, who knows, I can only tell them to try again! Only one piece of advice to help Smashburger; For the love, please put one over the hill in, Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo! Thank you and keep on doing what your doing :-)

better this time. parking insane because of the market next door. almost impossible to find a spot since thanksgiving is a few days off. Burger was cooked better. the bun did not fall apart. definite loss of star for not having plain old ice tea. boo. Think I still will give the Habit a better grade than here.

The burgers/sandwhiches are great! I've been here twice so far and I have yet to be disappointed. They get minus 1 star for cleanliness. I'm not sure if there was some wild party going on before my friends and I got there, but there were fries and trash all over the place. We had to ask someone clean the tables before we sat down. I understand if the place was busy, but they weren't.

I Love Smashburger! I ate there 2 days in a row last week. They serve hot juicy burgers that are full of flavor, and they will make it however you want. They also allow dogs on the patio, which is awesome. If you want a super delicious burger, go to Smashburger

  • Kelly R.

Really disappointed. The food is still top notch, but the service has gotten considerably worse since their opening. We waited almost 10 minutes to get 2 shakes made (that was our entire order), while they continued to take additional orders at the register. At nearly the 6 minute mark on their own timer, the employee marked our order as done to stop the clock. At around 7 minutes I had to ask her to actually make the shakes. There was one order ahead of us when we ordered. It's really a shame because we love the food, but the last two times there, it's been a disaster when it comes to service.

Lots of friends were talking about smash burger and that I had to give it a try. I ordered the classic Burger with guacamole and the smash Fries.. Burger was tasty guacamole was great. Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of the smash Fries olive oil & rosemary just didn't do it for me. All things being equal I'll probably go to The Habit and save the drive next time.

Good burgers. I dont really dig the chicken burgers, they taste a little dry. Smash fries are good. This place has a lot of hype.

  • Sara A.

For all of the hype and the HUGE out the line door, I was a little underwhelmed with this place. It's right next to the Whole Foods and due to that strip center, parking can get a little crazy at times. The inside is brand new and a little nicer than a typical fast food place. Something I think that is interesting about their menu, is that every location has some of the staple burgers, but than specialty burgers that fit that location. So for example this one has an LA burger and the Fresh Mex burger, while Florida has a Miami burger, etc. That is kind of a cool idea. I like that. Now here is where things went a little downhill for me. To eat I had the the Fresh Mex burger protein style. The burger sounded a lot better than it was. The toppings were fine, but I found my burger to be really dry, and not juicy at all. On top of that there was hardly any aioli, which it really needed for as dry as the burger was.The highlight for me was the fried pickles. In fact, these salty fried pickles almost made me move it up to 3 stars, but the place is supposed to be about burgers right? I will give this place another try when visiting my parents in TO, and try to find out what this hype is about, but for me I still would rather spend the money and go get a burger at Umami.

Good burgers and fries. Haystack onions are good. It takes along time to get your food so don't be in a hurry

  • Kristina K.

Either they train their associates to make at least one compliment per guest or the young lady who helped me was just über friendly. I overheard her dealing with 2 other customers beside myself and each one received some kind of personal compliment: whether on their gorgeous eyes, their choice in food or in my case, my outfit AND debit card photo. A nice way to be introduced to a new place :) They are quite slow tho. When I arrived there were literally 10 customers that came before me waiting for to go orders, just standing around. The line situation was confusing as well; no one knew where to stand and there is little room to wait. I am drafting this review as I wait for my to go order and its already been 7 minutes. Fast food it's not! The burger itself was just meh. Chili cheese fries also very much meh. They put onions and jalapenos on them even though it does not state that on the menu overhead. I have no desire to come back. There are plenty of burger places around to bother with this one; just nothing special or spectacular about smashburger for me.

  • C F.

Waited FOREVER for our to go order. They gave us coupons for 2 free sandwiches because the wait was so long, but after we got home to eat (less than 5 mins away) we were disappointed to have very salty burgers and cold, stale fries. That was my first experience there and doubt I will be using the free coupons.

This place is just SO good. To be honest, it's better than In-n-Out, but it's more expensive. I had an Avocado Club burger and Smash fries and they were just delicious. It's really hard for me to describe how delicious it was actually. You just need to know the burgers are well made and you can definitely tell they didn't just use frozen patties. In fact, that's what they advertise, they make their patties out of ground beef balls that they put right on to the grill then SMASH it (haha, get it? :D *gets shot*) Anyways, their smash fries are basically normal fries seasoned with rosemary. You can definitely taste the rosemary and it just tastes so good. Their service? Just phenomenal. They have long lines but they get through them quickly. When you order, you get a number and they'll serve you your burger. (Hope you find a seat though) They're also really nice. My younger brother had a milkshake, but the server accidentally knocked it over when giving him his burger. Only half of the milkshake spilled out, but the owner of the place gave us another one for free. :D If only I lived in Thousand Oaks, then I would be going to this place very often.

    (5)
  • Ron P.

I was there at noon so the service was good, but if its slow thats because they prepare it fresh....and it's the bomb. Truffle mushroom swiss and my junk moved. Just sayin...

  • Sarah S.

Very fresh tasting burgers and I really enjoyed that the burgers were not salty like five guys can be. My husband and I split the LA burger (extra points for donating $1 to animal rescue when you buy that one) and the bacon burger. Both were great and interesting, not traditional boring. We split the fried pickles and normal fries- both good, think fried pickles were an interesting alternative! I also enjoyed the choices of tea, not just Nestea like normal but they had three choices-green, red, and black tea-all flavored- nice touch!! Will return again!

Finally a good place to eat a hamburger in Thousand Oaks. The burgers here are terrific. The BBQ Cheddar burger with haystack onions is my favorite. Friendly staff and good service.

I was really excited to try this place since I had a groupon. Also my bf loves burgers and I don't eat meat so I was stocked when I saw they had a black bean burger. The place it's self is very clean and inviting. It wasn't to busy when my bf and I went in we order quickly. Yummy! We waited for a good 10 mins for our food even though there wasn't anyone there :(. Once the food was bought to us it looked very well presented and yummy . Yaay sweet potato fries. But my fries were cold and my black burger was dry and the bun tasted stale. Very disappointing. I was expecting a spicy flavorful burger with a fresh bun that bounced back when you bit into it. I do give them credit for actually using roman lettuce not iceberg yuck! My bf got a bbq bacon cheddar burger with egg added he said it was good expect his bun just wasn't quite right either . But overall everyone was very friendly the place was clean and maybe they were just having a bad bun day . I would try it again .

A pleasant surprise! Very large and juicy burgers; I had the Fresh Mex burger, which was more than delicious. The Haystack onions and Rosemary fries were very flavorful as well as the sweet potato fries. I enjoyed this place much better then 5 Guys....better prices, better food and even better seating, especially if you have peanut allergies :) I am going to make it point to visit this place again soon!!!

Solid burger, especially for a chain.., who wouldn't want to eat a "smash" burger. That just sounds epic

    (4)
  • Roland B.

Great burgers and loved the Sweet Potato fries. Now - as for the service...? SUCKS! Waited almost 40 minutes for our food. Really? In a 'fast food' joint? The couple next to me waited 45 minutes and was so pissed they left. It looked well staffed, but slow as hell. NEVER go here if you are on a lunch hour like I was.

    (2)
  • Scottie P.

Good burgers. They offer a decent selection of beers by the bottle as well. I would definitely recommend their french fries and sweet potato fries. In all reality, I only come here when they offer BOGO. With fries and a drink, you're easily spending $10-$12 for a burger.

  • Amelia S.

Smashburger was a great stop for lunch during the week. While it was busy, the line moved quickly, and the food was delivered within a few minutes. I ordered the LA Burger, which had a great mix of flavors. It was unlike anything I had ever eaten before, and I appreciated their creativity. The restaurant was clean, and the staff is friendly. I also liked that burgers can be customized with toppings and sauces. It was also nice to have a "small burger" option. I often don't finish my burger because they are often so large, and they make for lousy leftovers. A "small burger" was just right for me. Don't miss the sweet potato fries - crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside. Just perfect.

Love this new restaurant. The food is fresh and delicious and the establishment is clean and well appointed. Will be back soon.

I thought the burger I had was fantastic; easily one of the best I have ever had...and I know that sounds extreme. I'm not big on fries in general, so I probably won't bother with ordering fries again as they were just OK, but the burger was outstanding. Great service too, which is important to me, fast and friendly. The place was very clean. Order the mushroom swiss if you go...

I'm not from the area. I found this place on YELP. Cute name! The space is modern in design. Outdoor seating is available too. Overall the food was tasty. The quantities were on the smaller side. They were out of the multigrain bun that night which seems to be a recurring theme [according to other YELP reviews]. The fries are the skinny type. The topping choices are good and atypical. The beer selection was interesting [most of their beers are locally produced] and reasonably priced. The service was fine. The young lady at the register was new and attempted to be helpful. The serving staff was helpful. The major disappointment was the place was a mess. The tables and chairs needed wiping down. The floor needed a sweep. The carpet needed vacuuming. Perhaps because it was close to closing? It was around 9:30p. on a Friday night. (Upon leaving I did notice one of the staff with a spray bottle and towel.) BONUS: It's located next door to Stan's Donuts! So if you're not in the mood for a shake you can pick up one of his famous peanut butter, chocolate donuts. :) Or do what my friend and I did....buy some and take them home for later. [Apologies this should be a separate review] Anyway, I hope Smashburger works out their kinks. It's a nice place.

4 stars for the yummy food, but if there was a separate rating for customer service it would be closer to 2 stars, the staff is cold and un welcoming. The women who took my order acted as though I was wasting her time. While sitting waiting for my takeout order of 2 burgers and fries, I could see my bags sitting under the heat lamp for 10 minutes before my name was called. Good food, poor management. Edit: a few weeks after writing this review my father went to pick up food and had a similar experience, very rude service. the girl at the counter didn't say a word to him, he ordered and she just stared at him without asking if that was all he needed or wanted to add anything, or read his order back to him.

While getting my order was kind of slow, The employees were very nice .the best thing about the Burger is the Egg bun , The burger lacks flavor. try using some salt Or pepper. I don't see what the big deal is, Smashburger is not even close to 5 Guys or in & out . The smashfries were interesting , you cantaste the olive oil. tried it , will not be making an encore visit

Smashburger is AWESOME!!! I went there two times today, which I would never ever do that normally, but..... This place IS that good. I had the Classic Burger earlier today it was great, BUT.... Tonight I had the Goat Cheese and Spinach Chicken-Burger= Fricken Awesome!!! I took a bite (actually a couple of them) of my daughter's L.A. Burger.... OMG!!!! Ecstasy on a BUN!! This thing is KILLER!!! All the ingredients together sound a bit strange, but they mesh so well together and WOW!!! You don't want it to end!!! We also got the Carrot and Green Bean Frites= Yummy!!! All of it was great, you have to try it!!

This place just opened down the street from me so I was really curious to try it. When I went I think they had only been open 3 or 4 days so the line was super long and they were very busy. I waited about 10 minutes in line til I ordered my food but I didn't really mind because I expected it being that they had just opened. I thought that because of the amount of people there, it would take forever to get the food. I was completely wrong. Their service is ridiculous. We got our food about 5 minutes after we ordered which is pretty crazy considering the crowd. The cheeseburgers were delicious. The hamburger patty was different which I don't really know how to explain but i'm not complaining because it was great. The chili cheese fries weren't anything special but still good. And of course, it is self serve drinks which is always a plus. I will definitely go back to try other items on the menu.

  • Josh S.

A little over rated. Food is great though, don't get me wrong. They messed up my order a few times but I guess that is because they are still starting out. Lines are always long and ordering is a drag when there isn't much employees taking orders. Check it out, damn good burger.

  • Harrison S.

My favorite buger but the service has always been pretty dang bad. If i actually got good service then id come back at least once a week. But the last two times i came here were nightmares. One time it took about 40 minutes to get a burger and fries. Yes it was busy but 40 min!!! There was a full staff and everything but 40 min. The most recent visit the guy ringing me up didnt look up for a good 30 sec while i stood at the reg with no one else around. He then rang me up and half way between me ordering he stopped to finish fixing something without any explanation and turned back around like nothing had happpend. They then forgot about the shake i ordered so i had remind them half way through my meal. The burger and Nutter Butter shake were delicious but seriously the service was so bad i wont be coming back again for a while.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. This was our third time eating here and wow, has it gone WAY downhill. The line was out the door and there was one cashier working at lunch time. Not the best time to skimp on service. Then we waited a good 25 minutes for our food to come. What happened to the burgers? My patties were all dried up, thin and crunchy. I remember the meat being juicy and delicious. Cutting corners, I suppose. The fries were flavorless and I would likely compare them to hospital food French fries. Overall, I think the food was awful and the wait time was unacceptable. We won't be back. It's amazing how you can take a good restaurant and turn it into complete garbage. Management should be ashamed of themselves.

    (1)
  • Scott V.

Eh. It was OK. The burger was a little dry (the avocado/bacon) and the service was not terribly friendly. The sweet potato fries were decent. Not impressed. I regret not going to the delicious Thai place next door.

I went here with my mom and dad for lunch. I did the create your own burger thing. Mom got a salad and dad got a sandwich with sweet potato fries. My burger had American cheese, grilled onions, red onions, mustard, ketchup, and a black and a white sesame seed bun. My meal came with smash fries. Dad's sandwich and my burger was served in a rectangle metal basket plate with a red paper underneath it. My burger was really delicious. It tasted better than a burger from Five Guys.

    (5)
  • Katie H.

So much better than Five Guys and The Habit down the street. The burgers are fantastic. The meat is really seasoned well and the toppings are fresh and delicious. Vegetarians rejoice: the veggie patty is out of this world and they will sub it in any of the amazing burger combinations. Be prepared for a long line (out the door!) to order and a wait for a table while Thousand Oaksians rush this place, hopefully things will settle down soon!

  • Garrett H.

Meh burger, good fries - not as fast as some places, but that's fine. If you're deciding between here and Five Guys, here's how I rank them: - Five Guys has better buns, although the buns here are of obvious high quality. - Five Guys burgers are much better. - Smashburger's fries are nicer - not as oily as Five Guys, which helps give the illusion of being healthy. - Smashburger has a more upscale interior. This can go either way depending on the mood. - Smashburger has a more varied menu. This also can go either way -- it just depends on if you need more choices or not. If you're deciding between here and In-N-Out: - The burgers here are nicer, or not... - In-N-Out has better fries - I didn't get to try the milkshake, but In-N-Out's can't be beat for the price. - Smashburger has a nicer interior. - I'm not sure In-N-Out is any faster -- per order, they probably are faster, but In-N-Out is always so crowded, that your net waiting time is probably about the same.

The best chicken sandwiches. As a non-beef eater, I can't comment on the burgers but the chicken sandwiches are amazing. I love all the gourmet toppings, especially the SantaFe style one. Food is very fresh and served hot. The sweet smashed fries are amazing, with just a hint of salt and herbs. Place is usually crowded but staff is very attentive and the food comes out quick.

  • Michael B.

The food is always good here, and the service too. Tonight, Dana was extremely pleasant and helpful, big thanks to our local Smash crew! The ingredients are always good and we love getting the fido burger to share with our dog Wicket. The only funny thing is that the jalapeños are sometimes scorching, and others super tame.

Sometimes, you just crave a good burger, and since we were making this a dinner outing instead of a pit stop (say, In-N-Out or the Habit), my bf and I decided to head over to Smashburger! The parking at this location is nice, because if you park in the side lot and choose a table by the window, you can see your car while eating. This is especially convenient if you have a lot of shopping bags in the car or have luggage and are en route to the airport. We each ordered the house cheeseburger and shared one order of fries, and it came out to around $16 for the both of us. It's not the cheapest option compared to some fast food joints, but in comparison to a $10 restaurant burger, Smashburger is a great deal. The burgers were well cooked and very tasty with the cheese and added sauces. Combined with the crispy, thin cut fries, it was delicious! A nice dinner date without breaking the bank and a fun quick outing. Also, I've heard the milkshakes here are fantastic, so maybe we'll try them next time.

One of my favorite burger chains and I am so glad to see them expand all over. I love their salads, veggie burger and veggie fries, none of it by any means healthy, but certainly tasty! Service is excellent, they really hired a great staff. Portions and prices are fair, the kids meals generous, my husband loves the burgers as well, all around great lunch here, we'll be back!

  • Leah F.

Went to Smashburger for the first time tonight. I split the classic smash with my husband. It was very very good. One of the best burgers i've had. I love the habit and in n out and this definitely competes. I loved the soft bun, the melted cheese and the sauce. I highly recommend!

  • Clara C.

Have been twice and both times got a burger patty with cheddar & a fried egg. Delicious. Burger cooked to a perfect pink. Fries are good but since they are thin you need to eat them fast, while they're hot. Second time here, got the fried pickles. WAY too salty for me & I'm a salt lover. Boyfriend & I left more than half the order untouched. Go for the burgers.

  • Troy H.

This is another great spot to fulfill your burger needs. They have a variety of burger options that can make your stomach happy and satisfied. My choices would be the Avocado burger with the Rosemary fries. The flavor of both items combined will have you wanting more and more. The portions that they give you is not bad, and can have you in a mini food coma. You can wash down these food coma choices with any of their avaliable beverages. Service is great as they will make sure your needs are met. Parking can be tight from time to time, but you can park and walk off the food.

    (4)
  • Nicole R.

Staff is unhelpful and don't respond even if you talk to them. The merat is burnt and the toppings on the burgers are not ripe. Really gross to bite into a hard tomato and avocado.

Love the place. Full of memories. Must try their unique LA burger. What a genius idea to put cilantro in burgers. Additionally, the mushroom truffle burger is the best mushroom burger I ever had.

  • Diane R.

So I tried my first Smashburger! First off this is on a busy street in a mini-mall. The parking was plentiful. I went to counter & ordered from the unenthusiastic cashier. She did like the food but she did know the most popular menu items which I ended up ordering, the Smashburger fries & avocado Club burger. I thought both of my food items were tasty & enjoyed the crunchy but juicy burger. The bathrooms were clean but sadly the tables were not. We had to bus our own tables during lunch & I did not see anyone wipe down any of the tables during lunch. That is why I gave them three stars instead of four. The service was not good. I thought the salads looked large but don't know how they tasted.

    (3)
  • Sarah T.

Every time I come here I am just blown away by how good it is. I never eat there, its always to go but they have never forgot an item or messed up one of my items. Oreo shake is always a must have and smash style fries. Every burger I have had was juicy and cooked correctly.
